The Travelers was eventful right up until the final hole. Sahith Theegala looked to have the win within his grasps before an errant tee shot left him in a fairway bunker nestled up against the lip.
Theegala compounded the tee shot error by trying to reach the green from the bunker instead of focusing on just getting out of the bunker and playing for an up and down par. His bogey putt lipped out and he opened the door wide for Xander Schauffele, who took full advantage and cashed in on the win.
The LIV defectors added to their list this past week when Matthew Wolff announced that he would be leaving the PGA Tour for the Saudi-based tour. He joins Brooks Koepka and Abraham Ancer as the most recent additions to the growing list of LIV Tour players.
Though the LIV Tour is getting interesting, we are focusing on the PGA Tour and most notably the John Deere Classic this week. Lucas Glover will be in the field to defend his title and Ryan Moore will look to better his 2nd place finish.

Schenk has been hot at the John Deere Classic in his last 2 starts with a 6th place finish in 2019 and a 4th place finish last year. Pan missed the cut last year and did not participate in 2019. Not only do we have that history on our side but this season Schenk has outperformed Pan on a number of occasions.
At The Travelers, Schenk finished 1 stroke better than Pan. In the Memorial, Schenk defeated him by 7 strokes. We expect Schenk to better Pan once more on a course where he is comfortable.

Moore’s latest tournament was the RBC Canadian Open where he shot -3 for the tournament which was good enough for a tie for 35th place. In his last 5 starts at the John Deere Classic, he has missed the cut just once in 2017.
Outside of that finish, he is averaging a finish of 19th. That includes a 2nd place finish last year and a win in 2016. He’s got the historical experience and we think he will compete again at TPC Deere Run.

Another player competing this week who has a strong history at TPC Deere Run is Vaughn Taylor. In his last 4 starts at the John Deere Classic, his worst finish is 34th, which he did twice including last year. He also sprinkled in a 19th and a 6th place finish as well.
This year Taylor is 6th on tour in driving accuracy and 35th in shots gained on approach to the green. Vaughn should make the cut and grab another finish inside 40th.

Let’s be realistic here, this is a complete value bet. Scott has not had tremendous success this season, but he has some strong finishes here at the John Deere Classic in the past.
He finished 4th last year and has 4 other finishes inside the top 20 in his other 8 starts here. Throw in the 25th and 22nd place finishes where fell just short and you have a golfer that certainly has a good chance at another top 20 finish.
