US Daily Fantasy Industry
The DFS industry continues to grow exponentially in the United States. According to the Fantasy Sports & Gaming Association, over 59 million people in the US and Canada compete in fantasy sports every year. That represents nearly 25% of the adult population between the two countries!
Daily Fantasy leaders FanDuel and DraftKings currently own a 90%+ market share, but that has not stopped new sites and products from entering the market. We saw Monkey Knife Fight make a splash in 2019 with their prop-style fantasy games. 2020 saw a rise in popularity for Underdog's season-long best ball fantasy format and they already have a $3.5 million contest in their lobby for 2021.
Daily Fantasy Sports is currently legal in 44 US states with Washington, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Utah, and Hawaii being the only states that currently do not allow DFS. However, both FanDuel and DraftKings offer free fantasy games for residents of those states. This gives residents of states with no legal sports betting an option for finding action.
