Company Overview

Referred to as North America's largest fantasy sports operator, PrizePicks has grown into a juggernaut in this fast-emerging sector. They appeal to users with a friendly display, generous referral bonuses and weekly discounted prop offers, and the ability to tailor wagering to their risk tolerance.

They have a high-powered management and advisory team, strong industry partnerships across numerous leagues and teams, including in their hometown of Atlanta, and connect with users in a way that's skyrocketed their popularity.

PrizePicks App Screenshots

In-App User Experience

PrizePicks, like Underdog and Vivid Picks, has a dark, appealing app view that includes splashes of color that draw the users' eyes. For our taste, it was less chaotic than Vivid Picks and similar to Underdog in terms of ease of use and ability to find specific sports and players.

The sports, leagues, betting types, and specials are listed in a horizontal scroll at the top of the screen, with the wagering types within those categories just below. These can range from full-game props across the major American professional and college sports, partial-game offers like the first quarter of an NBA game or the first half of an NFL game, full-season options like home runs in the upcoming MLB campaign, and even Esports for professional gamers playing Call of Duty among other games.

Sports and players can be combined in the bet slip as desired, and the specials often consist of pre-set multi-sport wagering opportunities for users to review and take advantage of. A typical example in the winter months would be the pairing of an NBA player, like CJ McCollum, and an NHL player, Sebastian Aho, to combine for a certain number of made three-pointers and shots on goal.

Other unique offerings include the addition of their latest promotion, Demons & Goblins, which we describe a little later in more detail. This adds up to two additional options per player for each prop type and, depending on the user's confidence level, can provide a safe harbor in the form of shorter odds or more payout potential on longer odds.

Pick'em Contests

PrizePicks doesn't list odds with each player prop but transparently displays how each addition to the bet slip impacts the parlay odds once the user selects More or Less, the equivalent of over or under.

Their two options for pick'em contests include Power Play and Flex Play types.

The Power Play is similar to a standard parlay in that every leg must win to realize the payout. Bet slips with between two and four legs are eligible for Power Plays. These payouts range from 3x the entry fee for two-leg parlays to 10x for four-leggers.

Flex Play is a similar feature to other prop engines, like Underdog, where players can accept a lower payout potential in favor of reducing risk. In this format, the bet slip can include up to six legs. Once a Flex Play includes five or more props, there are payouts of 2x when all but one leg wins and 0.4x if two of the legs lose.

PrizePicks Promotions

Welcome Offer and Promotions

In addition to the usual odds, PrizePicks has a current promotion called Demons & Goblins. The Demon half of this offering gives users the chance to take advantage of higher payouts because the player projection is set to a more difficult number to achieve.

An example could be PrizePicks offering a quarterback's passing yard prop with the standard vig at 250.5 yards and then offering the chance to bet the over on the Demon version of their total, which is set at 280.5 yards.

For the Goblin offerings, it's the opposite. The wagers are watered down to make them easier to win but have less upside attached because of the lower bar. The Demon plays make it possible to place a parlay with odds as high as 100x if users are feeling lucky.

The PrizePicks team engages with users in a unique way every week with 'Taco Tuesday.' Based on a member vote, certain players or projections will be discounted the following Tuesday and available for wagering at a more appealing number. They use imaging attached to the specific offering to highlight the opportunity and their affinity for tacos.

Bonus Offers for New and Existing Players

Our current PrizePicks promo code offer includes a 100% deposit match, worth up to $100. New players can opt into this promotion by using the promo code EWB at registration.

PrizePicks has a generous referral promo offer for existing users that awards $25 in bonus funds to their account for every new person who signs up with the first user's referral code. This is more than double the amount of the current Underdog bonus, which we also recently reviewed.

Deposits, Payouts, and Customer Support

The app allows deposits and withdrawals via bank account transfer, debit card, and PayPal. For deposits only, credit cards and Apple Pay are options with one-way potential that allow users to get started but require more action to retrieve their winnings.

PrizePicks offers 24/7 live chat support through their website and directly on the app if any questions arise when performing either action.

PrizePicks Legal States Overview

PrizePicks Legal States and Restrictions

Like other prop-focused apps, PrizePicks is only available if you're in a particular state. Currently, that list includes 32 states and all of Canada, except for Ontario residents. Like other outfits that operate in this lane, PrizePicks is subject to the guidelines of the areas where potential users live and have to abide by those specific pieces of legislation.

The only other disclaimer they make on their app to this end is that PrizePicks cannot be used in federally designated tribal lands, even if those lie within a state where they operate legally. Again, they're just following the rules.

For those located where PrizePicks doesn't operate and who haven't had the chance to check out whether it is allowed in their state before attempting to create an account, they will be prevented from doing so automatically. For those who don't get the red light, they're good to go.

App Rating From Current Customers

PrizePicks currently tops the charts in the Sports category of the App Store, boasting a rating of 4.8 stars from a staggering amount of reviews, nearly 200,000. It's worth noting that many reviews from a seemingly endless number of users repeat the same group of template texts and list 5-star ratings.

The Google Play rating for PrizePicks is 4.1 stars, with a more varied crop of written context to user reviews.

From the unique entries that we dug up, users note the variety of player prop types, positive customer service interactions, and better experiences with PrizePicks than other fantasy apps or sportsbooks. On the constructive criticism side, some app bugginess, payout troubles, and deposit limits were noted in a few instances.

Still A Solid Choice for Prop Lovers

PrizePicks is still one of my go-to apps for player prop action. I've been with them a long time and see no reason to go anywhere else. Their payouts are decent and their overall selection of player prop choices are better than any others in the space.
