2023 Valero Texas Open 9 Bets We're Making

The PGA Tour heads to the Lone Star State this week for the 2023 Valero Texas Open. While some of the world's top names are skipping this tournament to focus on The Masters, there's still plenty of talent in this field. Defending champ J.J. Spaun is currently listed at +3300 to win, according to BetMGM Sportsbook.

Some of the betting favorites for this week's event include Tyrrell Hatton (+1200), Rickie Fowler (+1800), and Si Woo Kim (+2000). Also, don't forget about seasoned veterans like Hideki Matsuyama (+2500) and Matt Kuchar (+2800). We've picked apart this betting card and found 9 bets that we love! Let's make some cash!

Beau Hossler -115 OVER Patton Kizzire (DraftKings)

Beau has missed 4 straight cuts and has yet to shoot under par in any of those rounds. However, in his 2 starts prior to those missed cuts, he finished 11th and 14th, respectively.

Kizzire finished tied for 10th in his latest start, which came at the Valspar, but that was after a 65th finish at the Players and 4 straight missed cuts prior to that. Here at the Valero, Beau has made 4 straight cuts and finished a career-best 4th in last year’s event.

Kizzire missed the cut in his start here last season. We believe Beau can turn things around here on a course he has a good track record at, and Kizzire can easily fall back to his early rides home again like last season.

Chris Kirk -110 OVER Taylor Montgomery (DraftKings)

Kirk tied for 52nd in the Dell Tech Match Play last week but has finished in the top 5 in 3 of his last 7 events. At the Valero, he has made 3 of his last 4 cuts at the event. In those 3, he finished in the top 5 twice, with his other being a 35th finish in 2022.

Montgomery has yet to play in the Valero and will be learning the course as he goes this weekend. He did have the best finish of his last 6 starts last week (17th) in the Dell Match Play.

However, Match Play is a totally different type of tournament. We like Kirk to continue his strong play at the Valero.

Si Woo Kim -115 OVER Rickie Fowler (DraftKings)

Rickie has had success here at the Valero, with finishes in the Top 20 in 2019 and 2021. Last year, he failed to make the cut. This season, Rickie has seemingly found his grove and has been playing some seriously consistent golf.

However, we like Si Woo Kim to be in contention this weekend and outlast Rickie. Si Woo finished 13th last year at the Valero.

His 4th place finish in 2019 was his best here, and he has made the cut 5 straight times. He has also been solid this season, with 9 finishes inside the Top 40.

DraftKings PGA Promo

Top 40: Dylan Frittelli

Best Available Odds: +200 at FanDuel

Frittelli finished 8th last season here and finished 20th in 2018. His only other start here in the last 5 years was 42nd in 2019.

In 5 of the 6 cuts he has made this season, Frittelli has finished inside the Top 40. We believe he has the chops to do it again here at the Valero, and at 2 to 1, it is a value well worth the play.

Top 40: Kevin Chappell

Best Available Odds: +225 at BetRivers

After missing the 1st 5 cuts of the season, Chappell has finished inside the Top 30 in 3 straight tournaments. He missed the cut in 2021 but finished 18th last season.

His 2018 finish was inside the Top 40, and he won the event outright in 2017. We don’t believe he will win or be in contention, but the Top 40 is certainly doable.

Top 40: Kevin Streelman

Best Available Odds: +185 at FanDuel

Streelman has been a monster here at the Valero. He finished 18th last season after posting a 6th-place finish in 2019 and an 8th-place finish in 2018.

He faired well in his last start at the Valspar, where he shot even in the tournament and finished tied for 27th. We like Streelman to have yet another solid outing at the Valero.

Top 40: Lucas Glover

Best Available Odds: +220 at FanDuel

Glover is coming off a 36th-place finish at the Valspar before getting a week off before this tournament. He is currently 20th on Tour in driving accuracy and 10th in proximity to the hole.

In all 3 starts here at the Valero, he has finished inside the Top 20. The best being in 2021 when he finished in 4th. He provides a ton of value here at over 2 to 1 to finish in the Top 40.

Top 40: Martin Laird

Best Available Odds: +250 at FanDuel

Laird has gone 5 straight starts at the Valero, finishing no worse than 36th (2019). His 11th-place finish the year prior was his best here.

In 4 of the last 6 made cuts this season for Laird, he has finished inside the Top 40. He is coming off back-to-back missed cuts but will be playing on Sat-Sun this weekend.

Top 40: Troy Merritt

Best Available Odds: +210 at FanDuel

Merritt is currently 6th on Tour in total driving efficiency and 8th in putting from 10-15 feet. Now, he has missed 7 straight cuts this season. That said, he has 3 straight finishes inside the Top 40 here at the Valero.

His best being last season when he finished 4th. We believe he is going to try to make another push this weekend, and a Top 40 should be inside the realm of possibility for Merritt.
