DraftKings Cuts Ribbon on Physical Sportsbook at TPC Scottsdale

After satisfying the requirements of Arizona sports betting regulators, DraftKings has finally opened its TPC Scottsdale Sportsbook. The ribbon-cutting ceremony of the new facility took place on October 19, 2023. Led by the PGA Tour and DraftKings Incorporated, the ceremony saw Larry Fitzgerald, former Arizona Cardinals wide receiver, place the first bet.

DraftKings will open up the retail sportsbook to customers on October 20, 2023. The structure spans 13,000 square feet and features video boards that will provide coverage of sporting events while taking up some 3,400 square feet of wall space. Interestingly, the sportsbook is located on the site of an annual PGA Tour event.

The TPC Scottsdale has been in the works for a couple years now and will mark DraftKings’ first physical outlet in Arizona. Although sports betting has been legal in Arizona since September 2021, DraftKings chose to be strategic about expanding its operations into the state. Construction began on the project in May 2022 and was only completed recently.

DraftKings Accounted for About 30% of Market Share Despite Lack of Physical Presence

No doubt one of the country’s foremost gambling companies, DraftKings managed a significant hold on the Arizona sports betting market share while not having a physical sportsbook in the state. In July, DraftKings had a betting handle of $102.36 million, representing about 32% of the total amount wagered on sports for the month.

It came a close second to FanDuel which recorded $113.66 million worth of accepted wagers. The difference between the eventual sports betting revenue of FanDuel and DraftKings came to about $3.34 million.

While it may be hard for the establishment of the TPC Scottsdale to drive the numbers significantly higher than they already are, it will nonetheless provide a retail option for teeming DraftKings customers in Arizona. Besides, a physical sportsbook will secure DraftKings’ spot as one of the top two sports betting operators in the state.

Next Waste Management Phoenix Open Will Feature Bets

The TPC Scottsdale also hosts the Waste Management Phoenix Open. Visitors at the February 2024 edition of the event will have an option to place in-person bets at the physical sportsbook. According to the DraftKings Sportsbook website, the location can conveniently seat 300 people while also providing access to private lounging and VIP spaces.

Visitors can also enjoy full-service sports betting, including 40 self-service kiosks and seven ticket windows. There are markets for dozens of sporting events, especially golf. Even better, the dining options will provide meals like pizza, burgers and chicken wings to spectators.

“It’s an exciting day and we’re thrilled to celebrate the opening of the DraftKings Sportsbook at TPC Scottsdale, a location that showcases the special collaboration between DraftKings and PGA TOUR while featuring a number of customer-centric amenities true to the DraftKings brand,” Jason Robins, DraftKings’ Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder said at the ribbon-cutting ceremony. “We look forward to welcoming in locals and visitors to experience DraftKings in a new way and enjoy the unmatched service and dining experience.”

For interested customers, there is also a patio which comes with fire pits, outdoor gaming areas and five cabanas. The sportsbook opens at 10 am on weekdays but at 8 am on Saturdays and Sundays. On Mondays through Thursdays, the casino will close to visitors by 11 pm, 10pm on Sunday, but will remain open until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.

DraftKings Sportsbook at TPC Scottsdale is open to guests aged 21 or older. To celebrate the grand opening, customers who visit on October 20 will stand a chance to claim a free round of gold and a $250 voucher for food and beverage.
