Crazy Bets and Bad Beats from NFL Week 7

Happy Monday, fellow sports investors! No matter who you are or where you're reading from, we hope that Week 7 was a profitable one for you. It was another wild and whacky few days for lots of sports bettors.

Perhaps the biggest surprise on Sunday was the New England Patriots upsetting the Buffalo Bills as more than touchdown underdogs. Surprisingly, we couldn't find anyone that had the Pats on the moneyline for this column. However, here is a crazy bet and a bad beat from NFL Week 7. Good luck with all of your wagers on Monday Night Football.

Crazy Bet: Contrarian Bettor at DraftKings Cashes Massive TNF Total Wager

The craziest bet of Week 7 occurred during the first game of the week on Thursday Night Football. A sports investor at DraftKings made an unusually large wager on the Jaguars at Saints game to go Over 39.5 points.

Why was this bet so crazy? Simply because the Saints had not gone over a total all season long. Before Thursday, New Orleans was only averaging a tad over 18 points per game. All of that to say, an Over bet took some major guts!

Things couldn't have turned out any better! Jacksonville scored 17 first half points to take a 17-6 lead into the locker room at halftime. After a 10-point 3rd quarter, our crazy bettor at DraftKings needed just 7 more points to cash this ticket.

Taysom Hill sent him home almost $40,000 richer early in the 4th stanza with a 1-yard TD run. It had to be nice to cash such a large wager without much of a sweat! Congrats!

Bad Beat: Gambler at Caesars Suffers Rough Loss on the Dolphins

Unfortunately, a big bettor at Caesars didn't experience as kind of a fate as our crazy bettor at DraftKings. Someone in Kansas decided to put their faith in Tua Tagovailoa and the Miami Dolphins in a huge way by betting $136,000 on them on the moneyline. The nice odds of +136 would have made for an insanely profitable payday.

Things were neck and neck for a while, as both teams traded field goals and the first quarter ended in a 3-3 tie. That's when Tagovailoa's former Alabama teammate Jalen Hurts got things rolling for the Eagles. Hurts hooked up with Dallas Goedert for a 19-yard TD before running for another 1-yard score of his own thanks to the infamous "Brotherly Shove".

This was not good news for Fish backers, but Tagovailoa bounced back with a 27-yard TD strike to Tyreek Hill just before halftime. Much to the delight of all Miami fans, Jerome Baker picked off a Hurts pass and scampered 22 yards for a score to knot the game up at 17 all.

Hurts once again dashed Miami's hopes as he and the Eagles responded with a 14-yard TD pass to AJ Brown less than 4 minutes after Baker tied the game up. Tagovailoa tried to breathe some life back into the Dolphins, but he ended up throwing a pick at the 1-yard line to Darius "Big Play" Slay. Raheem Mostert was the intended target but Slay read the route perfectly.

Kenneth Gainwell put the game out of reach with a 3-yard TD run with just under 5 minutes left in the game. Hopefully this bettor at Caesars has a large bankroll and can bounce back quickly from this tough loss!
