Crazy Bets and Bad Beats from NFL Week 1

Hello, betting family! It's that time of the year again! Every Monday we'll go over which sports bettors cashed out and are living large. We'll also dive into some of the most devastating heartbreaks from the weekend.

Here are the Crazy Bets and Bad Beats from NFL Week 1. Hopefully you were on the right side of these. Best of luck with your plays this week.

Crazy Bet: FanDuel Sports Bettor Lands Huge Moneyline Win on Lions

Since Thursday was the official start of the 2023 NFL season, we had to include a bet from the Lions at Chiefs matchup. A gambler at FanDuel was such a big believer in Dan Campbell and the Lions that he placed a $50,000 moneyline wager on them at +176 odds.

Things started off well for the Lions and this crazy bettor! Jared Goff hooked up with Amon-Ra St. Brown for a 9-yard touchdown to get Detroit on the board 7-0. However, Patrick Mahomes fought back quickly as everyone expected. He led the Chiefs on two second-quarter TD drives to give Kansas City a 14-7 lead at the half.

The Chiefs held a 3-point lead at the end of the third quarter and were up by six when Harrison Butker nailed a 39-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter. However, Detroit just wouldn't be denied on opening night! Goff engineered a 9-play drive that culminated in a David Montgomery touchdown. The extra point by Riley Patterson capped off the upset for the Lions and sent this crazy bettor home $88,000 richer!

Bad Beat: Gambler at BetMGM Cries the Blues as Philly Fails to Cover!

A sports bettor at BetMGM didn't fare as lucky as our Lions crazy bettor. Someone at the King of Sportsbooks placed a $100,000 wager on the Eagles to cover -6 against the Patriots. Things couldn't have started out any better for this bet, as Philly quickly jumped out to a 16-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Though this bettor may have been thinking they were home free, Bill Belichick's bunch wouldn't go away quietly. The Patriots cut the lead to 2 before the break behind two touchdown passes from Mac Jones.

The second half started out well for Philly, as Jake Elliott hit three field goals to stretch the Eagles lead to 25-14. Unfortunately, this bettor at BetMGM suffered a bad beat shortly after. Mac Jones threw a 11-yard TD strike to Kendrick Bourne and the Patriots got the back door cover. This resulted in a six-figure loss for our Eagles bettor. OUCH!

Crazy Bet: Cowboys Fan at DraftKings Cashes in on a Huge Long Shot

The Dallas defense came to show out on Sunday Night Football and a certain bettor at DraftKings capitalized in a big way because of it. They bet $50 that the Dallas defense and special teams would score 2+ touchdowns in this NFC East battle. The bet was such a long shot that DraftKings gave this bettor gigantic odds of +8000!

The special teams unit got the party started, as Noah Igbinoghene ran back a blocked field goal 58 yards for the game's opening touchdown. At this point, our crazy bettor was probably on pins and needles waiting for another huge play. Daniel Jones obliged rather quickly.

Jones tried to hit Saquon Barkley on a short pass out to the left, but Trevon Diggs was ready and waiting. Diggs knocked Barkley to the ground and the ball caromed right into the hands of DaRon Bland. Bland rumbled 22 yards into the end zone to make this bettor at DraftKings $4,000 richer!
