Braxton Garrett UNDER 5 Strikeouts

I get that this prop is a little scary because Garrett has a pretty good strikeout rate of 25.7%. The young lefty also has a nice Whiff Rate that puts him in the 60th percentile. All of that being said, this Astros team just doesn't strike out that often versus left-handed pitchers.

Houston has the 2nd lowest strikeout rate in all of baseball against southpaws at 18.4%. Kyle Tucker, Alex Bregman, and Mauricio Dubon all fan less than 14% of the time, which should also help the Under. This Houston lineup is also much tougher now that Jose Altuve and Yordan Alvarez are back.

As for Garrett, his median strikeout number this season is 5. That tells us that PrizePicks has made no adjustment for Houston's low-K lineup. This is a good spot for the Under!

Max Scherzer OVER 7.5 Strikeouts

Scherzer let us down last week by only striking out 6 Oakland A's, but that won't deter us from taking another shot with him tonight. The veteran righty has looked more locked in since being traded from the Mets to the Rangers.

Scherzer may not throw as hard as he used to, but he still gets enough late movement to get strikeouts. His K-rate of 27.4% puts him in the 76th percentile, which is pretty impressive for a 39-year-old. With a favorable matchup against the Angels, we think Scherzer can get at least 8 strikeouts.

This LAA lineup has been striking out pretty frequently over the last couple of weeks, as they have the 3rd highest K-rate during that span. The Angels also have the 6th highest K-rate against right-handed pitchers this season. Take the Over!
