Dream vs. Valkyries Prediction: WNBA Finals Game 7 Pick and Best Bet
One game. Two franchises. No championship banner in either team’s history. The Atlanta Dream and Golden State Valkyries meet Saturday, October 31 at 8:00 PM ET at Chase Center in San Francisco for the first Game 7 in WNBA Finals history, with the series tied 3-3 and a first-time champion guaranteed. Atlanta, the 30-14 top team in the Eastern Conference, forced the finale with an 80-69 win in Game 6 on Thursday. Golden State, 32-12 and second in the West, now gets to play the decider on its own floor.
A Coin-Flip Line for a Winner-Take-All Night
The market sees almost nothing separating these teams. Golden State is a slim 1.5-point favorite at most books, with the total sitting around 142.5 and the moneyline hovering close to pick’em on both sides. That is a notable number given that the Valkyries were 17-5 at home in the regular season. The oddsmakers are essentially saying that home court is worth about a possession and a half, and nothing more, after Atlanta looked like the better team for long stretches of Game 6. If you are shopping for the best price on a Game 7 line, odds shopping can be worth a full point of value on a number this tight.
Atlanta’s Perimeter Shooting Against Golden State’s Wall
This is a classic clash of styles. Atlanta scores 91.3 points per game, third in the league, and plays through Jordin Canada, Allisha Gray and Rhyne Howard on the perimeter with Angel Reese cleaning the glass. Golden State is the opposite: the Valkyries rank first in the league in defensive rating at 100.6 and allow just 75.1 points per game, while playing at the slowest pace in the league. Something has to give, and in Game 6 it was the defense. Atlanta made 13 of 30 three-pointers and raced to a 32-15 first-quarter lead on the way to a 46-26 halftime advantage and a 25-point peak lead. Golden State shot just 7 of 27 from deep.
Three-point volume is the swing factor. Atlanta is now 16-0 when Reese hits from long range, and she knocked down two threes in Game 6 on the way to a double-double of 15 points and 14 rebounds, her fourth of the series. Gray led all scorers early with 23 points, including five threes, and Howard added 21 after a slow start to the Finals. If the Dream keep getting clean looks, Golden State’s suffocating half-court defense will have a hard time keeping pace. If the shots stop falling, as they did in the lowest-scoring games of the Finals in Games 4 and 5, the Valkyries will grind this into the kind of game they have won all year.
Gabby Williams and the Valkyries’ Margin for Error
Golden State’s offense runs through Gabby Williams, who poured in 26 points in the Game 6 loss and leads the team in postseason scoring at just over 20 points per game. Tiffany Hayes added 15 in Game 6, and Kiah Stokes remains the anchor on defense, leading the team in postseason rebounds and blocks. The Valkyries do not have much margin for error on offense, because they rank near the bottom of the league in scoring at 82.2 points per game. That is exactly why Game 6 was so costly: when Atlanta jumped to a big early lead, there was no path to a comeback beyond a late rally that trimmed the deficit to 77-66 before time ran out.
The home crowd at Chase Center is the great equalizer. Golden State took Game 1, 68-64, and then won Games 4 and 5 to seize a 3-2 lead, all on the strength of stifling defense and low scoring. A Game 7 that stays in the 60s favors the Valkyries. A Game 7 that reaches the 80s favors Atlanta. With the total set at 142.5, the sportsbooks are leaning toward a grinder, and that tells you which team the market trusts to dictate pace.
Prediction and Best Bet
Game 7s tend to be won by the team that controls tempo and defends without fouling, and that profile belongs to Golden State. The Valkyries have the league’s best defense, the home floor, and the benefit of knowing that Atlanta’s 13-for-30 shooting display in Game 6 was well above what the Dream managed in the games before it. Expect the Dream to make shots, but not enough of them to repeat that first-quarter outburst on the road in a hostile building. Look for a tight, lower-scoring finish that comes down to the final possessions.
- Prediction: Golden State Valkyries 73, Atlanta Dream 70
- Best Bet: Under 142.5
The under is the sharper play because both teams’ identities in this series point toward the same outcome: elite defense, slow pace and tight scoring, with Atlanta’s Game 6 explosion looking more like an outlier than a trend. A winner-take-all game with a championship at stake only tightens the rotation and the nerves. If you prefer a side, the Valkyries at the short number are the lean, but the total is where the real value sits. For more on reading the market, see our guide to betting odds.
