We are more than two months away from the start of the NFL playoffs, but Sunday’s primetime game featuring the Kansas City Chiefs (2-3) at home against the Detroit Lions (4-1) feels like a potential elimination game.
The Lions are not in that position heading into Sunday’s contest. Detroit has won four straight outings, notching double-digit margins of victory in three of those four games. Their only loss was a season-opening defeat against the Green Bay Packers.
It’s Kansas City that’s feeling the pressure. The Chiefs dropped two straight games to open the season before defeating the New York Giants and Baltimore Ravens in back-to-back weeks. On Monday, the Jacksonville Jaguars pulled out a come-from-behind win over the Chiefs to give the three-time Super Bowl champions a third loss on the season.
Can the Chiefs even their record by defeating the Lions? We’ll cover that and provide bettors with our three favorite player props for Sunday’s contest.
| Player | Prop | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Jahmyr Gibbs | Over 96.5 Rush Yards | |
| Jahmyr Gibbs | Under 98.5 Rush Yards |
Detroit Lions RB Jahmyr Gibbs OVER 68.5 Rushing Yards
One reason Detroit earned the No. 1 seed in the NFC Playoffs last year was the team’s two-headed rushing monster. Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery combined for more than 3,000 total offensive yards last year to pace the Lions’ attack.
Gibbs has a slight edge over his backfield counterpart this season, earning nearly 25 more touches than Montgomery through the team’s first five games. The unequal distribution is expected to continue on Sunday against the Chiefs.
Opponents are averaging more than 100 rushing yards per outing against Kansas City. Expect the Lions to target the ground game on Sunday, making Gibbs a strong bet to narrowly finish above 70 yards for the third time this year.
| Player | Prop | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Patrick Mahomes | Over 11.5 Rush Yards | |
| Patrick Mahomes | Under 11.5 Rush Yards |
Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes OVER 27.5 Rushing Yards
What do Caleb Williams, Lamar Jackson, and Jake Browning have in common? All three quarterbacks have rushed for at least 27 yards against the Lions this season. Now, Detroit will face a quarterback better known for his arm than his legs in Kansas City’s Patrick Mahomes.
The two-time MVP has never surpassed 400 rushing yards in a single season, but 2025 may be the year he achieves that. He’s already rushed for 190 yards this season through five games, posting three outings with at least 57 yards. Bettors should take the over on Mahomes’ rushing prop wager for Sunday as he’ll likely scramble multiple times against the Lions.

|---|---|---|
| Amon-Ra St. Brown | Over 75.5 Reception Yards | |
| Amon-Ra St. Brown | Under 76.5 Reception Yards |
Detroit Lions WR Amon-Ra St. Brown OVER 68.5 Receiving Yards
The Lions know what they have in wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown. The athlete has made three straight Pro Bowls after nabbing 465 receptions for 5,258 yards and 39 touchdowns through his first five seasons.
In 2025, he’s already collected 35 receptions for 407 yards and six scores, stats that rank among the top five for his position. He’s also finished with 70 or more yards in four consecutive games, making him a strong bet to cover this week’s receiving prop mark.

Best Bet: OVER 52.5 Points
Oddsmakers are still favoring the Chiefs despite having a losing record. Detroit enters this game as a 2.5-point underdog to Kansas City, a head-scratching decision to say the least. I like the Lions to win this game, but that’s not the best bet on Sunday.
Instead, bettors should look at the 52.5-point total score. Kansas City’s defense is not nearly as strong as last year’s unit, and Detroit is still struggling with its own unit. Expect this game to surpass 53 points as these two teams cover the total combined points mark.
