Rangers vs. Twins Prediction: Texas Looks to Extend Win Streak at Target Field

The Texas Rangers head to Minneapolis for the opener of a three-game weekend series against the Minnesota Twins on Friday night at Target Field, with first pitch set for 8:10 p.m. ET. Texas (79-80) is fighting to salvage something out of a season that has hovered right around .500 all year, sitting a half-game ahead of Houston in the AL West and clinging to faint wild-card hopes with just a handful of games left. Minnesota (75-84) has already been eliminated from postseason contention and is playing out the string, but the Twins have won two of their last three and are looking to spoil Texas’s stretch run in front of their home crowd.

Texas enters on a modest roll, having won six of its last 10 games, including a series-clinching win over the New York Mets on Thursday. The Rangers have owned this particular matchup in 2026, having taken all three previous meetings against Minnesota back in June, and they’ll lean on that recent success as they try to keep pace in a crowded AL Wild Card picture.

What the Odds Say About This One

Bookmakers see this as close to a coin flip, and the market reflects it. Texas is priced around -108 to -110 on the moneyline in most books, with Minnesota sitting just a shade behind at -105 to -108, making this one of the more evenly matched games on the slate this weekend. The run line has the Rangers at -1.5 (+150ish) and the Twins at +1.5 (-170ish), suggesting the market expects a tight, low-scoring affair rather than a blowout in either direction. The total is set at 7.5 runs, with money leaning slightly toward the over given both bullpens have been shaky in September.

Jacob deGrom gets the ball for Texas and brings a 11-10 record with a 3.86 ERA and an eye-popping 196 strikeouts across 158.2 innings, numbers that make him one of the more underrated arms in the league this season despite the middling win total. Minnesota counters with right-hander Joe Ryan, who has scuffled to a 6-10 mark with a 3.83 ERA but has still managed 151 strikeouts and remains a tough matchup when his fastball is working. Neither pitcher has been able to translate strong strikeout stuff into a winning record, which is part of why the moneyline is priced so tightly.

Injuries and Key Matchups Loom Large

Minnesota is dealing with a thin lineup missing some of its thump. Byron Buxton remains on the 10-day IL with a hip issue, and Trevor Larnach is out with a wrist injury, forcing the Twins to lean heavily on Brooks Lee, who has quietly put together a strong season with 24 home runs, 83 RBIs and a .255 average. Lee has been the engine of Minnesota’s offense in the absence of Buxton and Larnach, and his bat in the middle of the order gives the Twins a puncher’s chance even with a diminished supporting cast. Catcher Ryan Jeffers and third baseman/DH Josh Bell round out a lineup that has to manufacture more than it’s used to without its two best outfield bats.

Texas isn’t at full strength either. Cal Quantrill remains out with a lat issue, Joc Pederson is day-to-day with a hand injury, and the Rangers have already lost starters Jack Leiter and Cole Winn for the season to arm injuries, which has stretched an already taxed pitching staff down the stretch. Ezequiel Duran has been a steady presence in the lineup as Texas tries to string together enough offense behind deGrom to close out September on a high note.

The head-to-head history this season strongly favors Texas. The Rangers swept the season series in June, outscoring Minnesota 25-8 across three games, with Marcus Semien and the top of the Texas order feasting on Twins pitching in each contest. That kind of recent dominance, paired with deGrom’s strikeout upside against a Minnesota lineup that’s missing key bats, gives Texas a real analytical edge even with the odds priced as a near coin flip. Bettors looking for value markets should also check the latest MLB odds before locking in a side, since lines on tight divisional and wild-card-adjacent games like this one tend to move throughout the day.

Other Game Picks

Prediction and Best Bet

With deGrom’s strikeout stuff working against a Minnesota lineup missing Buxton and Larnach, and Texas still fighting for its playoff life while Minnesota plays out a lost season, look for the Rangers to grind out a close, low-scoring win to open the series.

  • Prediction: Texas Rangers 4, Minnesota Twins 2
  • Best Bet: Rangers on the moneyline

This is the best bet because Texas has both the pitching matchup edge with deGrom’s superior strikeout numbers and a clean 3-0 record against this Twins roster already this season, while Minnesota’s offense is operating without two of its top three run producers just when it needs every bat it can get.
