Padres-Guardians SGP: Best Same Game Parlay for Sunday’s Progressive Field Finale

Tanner Bibee’s rough recent form, Casey Mize’s boom-or-bust starts, and Fernando Tatis Jr.’s hot streak against Cleveland make this Padres-Guardians finale a prime same game parlay target.

Fernando Tatis Jr. celebrates a home run for the San Diego Padres against the Cleveland Guardians

Sunday getaway day at Progressive Field has a little bit of everything: a projected total that’s basically a coin flip, a Cleveland starter who’s been leaking runs all month, and a Padres lineup loaded with thump against a guy they’ve historically hit hard. San Diego (66-58) rolls into the finale off a series that’s gone their way, while Cleveland (60-64) is just trying to salvage one before the Padres head home. This is the kind of afternoon game that looks sleepy on paper and turns into a track meet by the fifth inning.

The number that jumps off the board is the total sitting right at 8.5, priced close to even money on both sides — books genuinely don’t know which way this one tips, and that split is exactly where a good same game parlay lives. Build it around the over cashing and a couple of correlated player legs, and the combined price gets fun in a hurry.

Leg 1: Bank on the Over Hitting

Tanner Bibee takes the ball for Cleveland sporting a 4-12 record and a 3.99 ERA on the season, and the surface-level number is actually flattering his recent form. Over his last seven outings, Bibee’s ERA has ballooned to 4.71 with a 1.17 WHIP, and he’s struck out more than five hitters just once in that stretch. He’s also allowing an .422 slugging percentage against him this year, the kind of number that lets contact turn into extra bases in a hurry.

On the other side, Casey Mize has been up and down since San Diego acquired him at the deadline — a dominant 6-inning, 2-run outing his last time out against Milwaukee, but also an outing against Arizona where he got rocked for eight earned runs in just 3.1 innings. That kind of volatility is exactly what you want to see when you’re leaning toward the over; neither pitcher is a lock to shut a lineup down, and the raw total of 8.5 barely nudges below where both offenses have been performing lately.

Leg 2: Fernando Tatis Jr. to Reach Base or Go Deep

Fernando Tatis Jr. is enjoying a strong season at the plate — a .280 average, .425 slugging percentage and 13 home runs — and he’s been directly in the mix in this series already, going deep against Cleveland pitching just two days ago. Tatis has also owned Bibee specifically over his career, going 1-for-2 with a home run and a double the one time he’s faced him, a small sample but an emphatic one. With his track record of making Cleveland pitching pay this week, riding Tatis to produce again on Sunday is a logical way to plug into this game script.

Leg 3: Total Bases Prop to Round It Out

Pairing a total-bases or hits prop for one of San Diego’s middle-of-the-order bats with the first two legs keeps the parlay honest to the over-friendly game script. Manny Machado has 23 home runs and a .414 slugging mark this season, and getting him or another Padres bat to clear 1.5 total bases plays into the same theme: a shaky Bibee start plus a boom-or-bust Mize outing usually means extra-base hits find a way to happen for somebody in this lineup. If you’re shopping before locking anything in, that’s the leg most worth a final gut check against your book’s live number.

The Full Parlay

Stack the over 8.5 with Tatis reaching base or homering and a Padres bat clearing 1.5 total bases, and you’ve got a same game parlay built around a genuinely soft Cleveland starter, an inconsistent Mize outing, and a San Diego lineup that has recent, real history hitting Bibee hard. None of these legs require heroics — just a continuation of trends we’ve already seen this week at Progressive Field.
