Dodgers vs. Brewers NLCS Game 2 Prediction: Can Los Angeles Even the Series?

The Los Angeles Dodgers find themselves in a familiar but uncomfortable spot heading into Game 2 of the National League Championship Series at American Family Field. Milwaukee grabbed homefield advantage with a tense 2-1 win on Sunday night, riding a Brice Turang home run and a dominant bullpen effort to send the two-time defending World Series champions to just their second loss of this postseason. Now the Dodgers (100-62) need a response on the road against a Brewers team (103-59) that finished with the best record in baseball and has won five straight games. Milwaukee also took the regular-season series 5-3, giving them the season tiebreaker that secured the top seed over Los Angeles down the stretch.

Where the Odds Stand After Milwaukee Grabs Game 1

The betting market has shifted back toward the Dodgers for Game 2, with Los Angeles installed as a slight favorite on the moneyline and getting a modest run-line price as well. The total sits a touch lower than Sunday’s number, reflecting two starters who have been nearly untouchable all October. Yoshinobu Yamamoto takes the ball for Los Angeles off a brilliant 1.29 ERA across his first two playoff starts, while Milwaukee counters with rookie right-hander Logan Henderson, who has been equally stingy with a 1.80 ERA and just four strikeouts allowed in limited playoff work. Oddsmakers clearly expect another low-scoring, tightly contested affair given both bullpens’ quality and the way Game 1 played out as a defensive struggle more than a slugfest. For bettors trying to make sense of how these postseason lines are set and moved, a quick read through an MLB betting guide can help frame why the number keeps shifting between Yamamoto’s track record and Milwaukee’s recent form.

Pitching Duel Looms as Dodgers Offense Searches for Answers

The story of Game 1 wasn’t Tarik Skubal’s shaky fourth and fifth innings — it was a Los Angeles offense that went just 1 for 6 with runners in scoring position and grounded into three double plays, falling to 2 for 22 with runners on in scoring position this postseason. Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, and Kyle Tucker form one of the most dangerous lineups in the sport, yet Milwaukee’s bullpen — anchored by Abner Uribe, DL Hall, and closer Trevor Megill — shut the door after starter Jacob Misiorowski was chased in the fifth inning. That’s the blueprint the Brewers will try to run back in Game 2, even with Henderson, rather than ace Misiorowski, on the mound.

Yamamoto gives the Dodgers a real chance to flip the script. He’s been dominant since October began, working efficiently and missing bats at an elite clip, and Los Angeles will need exactly that kind of length to keep its bullpen fresh for a series that could stretch deep into the week. On the other side, Henderson’s lack of playoff mileage is actually a positive heading into a start against a lineup this experienced — nobody in the Dodgers’ dugout has much of a book on him yet, and his low WHIP suggests he won’t hand out free passes even against a patient lineup.

Milwaukee’s lineup is built on contact, speed, and situational hitting rather than a traditional middle-of-the-order power threat, and that approach paid off perfectly in Game 1 when Garrett Mitchell’s walk, Cooper Pratt’s sacrifice bunt, and Luis Lara’s RBI single manufactured the winning run. Brice Turang’s solo shot off Skubal was the Brewers’ only extra-base damage of the night, but it was enough. If Los Angeles wants a different result, limiting these “small ball” rallies — stopping the bunt-and-advance sequences before they start — has to be priority one for Yamamoto and the defense behind him.

The Dodgers also have the benefit of recent history working in their favor, at least mentally: they’re the back-to-back champions and have shown an ability to flip a series after dropping Game 1 before. But with Milwaukee now 5-3 against them this season and riding a five-game winning streak into this matchup, the margin for error on the road has effectively disappeared.

Prediction and Best Bet

Expect another low-scoring game shaped by two starting pitchers who have been nearly unhittable this October. Yamamoto’s track record in big spots gives Los Angeles the slight edge to get a quality start and enough length to let Roki Sasaki or whichever high-leverage arm is next in line finish the job, while Milwaukee’s lineup will need another manufactured-run approach rather than one big swing to back Henderson.

  • Prediction: Dodgers 3, Brewers 2
  • Best Bet: Dodgers on the moneyline

With Yamamoto’s dominant underlying numbers and Los Angeles’s offense due for a positive regression after stranding nine runners in Game 1, the Dodgers represent the better value to even this series before it shifts to Dodger Stadium for Games 3 and 4.
