Brewers vs. Reds Prediction: Milwaukee Chases Another Series Win at Great American Ball Park

The Milwaukee Brewers roll into Cincinnati on Friday night riding the best record in baseball at 87-54, a comfortable NL Central crown all but wrapped up, and a lineup that has bullied the Reds all season long. Cincinnati, at 67-73, is playing out the string with an eye on 2027, but the Reds have shown some fight lately, winning two of their last five and getting a jolt of energy from Elly De La Cruz even while he nurses a tight left quad. First pitch at Great American Ball Park is set for 6:10 PM ET, and while the standings gap is enormous, this season series has been almost comically one-sided in Milwaukee’s favor.

What the Odds Say About This Mismatch

Sportsbooks see this the same way the standings do. The Brewers are priced between -160 and -162 on the moneyline, with the Reds sitting around +135 to +136 as the road underdog value play. Milwaukee is also a 1.5-run favorite on the run line at roughly -102, while Cincinnati gets the plus-money look at +1.5 (-118). The total sits at 9.5 runs, with the over and under both hovering near -110, suggesting a fairly even split of expectations for a game that could easily tip either way given both bullpens’ recent shakiness.

Those numbers track with how lopsided this rivalry has been in 2026. Milwaukee has taken six of the first seven meetings between these two clubs this season, including a five-game sweep-adjacent stretch in late June and early July where the Brewers outscored the Reds by a wide margin across a six-game set. The only Cincinnati win in that stretch was a 7-2 statement on July 2, but it hasn’t been nearly enough to shift the tide of this series.

Drohan vs. Lowder Headlines a Lopsided Pitching Matchup

Milwaukee hands the ball to left-hander Shane Drohan, who has quietly put together a strong campaign at 7-5 with a 3.75 ERA, a 1.30 WHIP, and 110 strikeouts. Drohan has been a steady presence in a rotation that doesn’t need to be flashy behind one of the league’s best offenses, and he’ll look to keep the Reds’ lineup off balance with a mix that has generated consistent ground-ball outs down the stretch. Cincinnati counters with rookie right-hander Rhett Lowder, who has struggled to find consistency in his first extended big-league look, sitting at 6-8 with a 5.14 ERA and a 1.46 WHIP. Lowder has the raw stuff that made him a first-round pick, but the results haven’t matched the pedigree, and Milwaukee’s patient, deep lineup is exactly the kind of test that has given him trouble.

Offensively, the Brewers continue to lean on Jackson Chourio, who has emerged as a legitimate star at just 22 years old, hitting .282 with 20 home runs and 57 RBIs while playing elite defense in left field. Christian Yelich has cooled from his MVP-caliber peak but is still a professional at-bat every time up, sitting at .241 with 10 homers and 49 RBIs, and he’s shown signs of heating up with multi-hit efforts in Milwaukee’s recent series against the Cubs. The top of the Brewers’ order — Chourio, Brice Turang, and William Contreras — has been relentless in September, setting the table early and often.

Cincinnati’s lone bright spot most nights is Elly De La Cruz, who has blossomed into one of the sport’s most electric talents at .273 with 21 home runs, 60 RBIs, and 83 runs scored. De La Cruz has been dealing with a mild left quad strain and has been used at DH rather than shortstop in the Reds’ most recent series, but he’s remained an offensive threat, going 2-for-4 with a run scored in his last outing. The concern for Cincinnati is that beyond De La Cruz, the lineup lacks the firepower to consistently keep pace with a Brewers offense that ranks near the top of the National League in runs scored.

Milwaukee did drop its most recent game 2-1 to the Cubs, snapping a stretch of strong play, but the Brewers still enter this series having won six of their last ten and remain comfortably in control of the division. That kind of margin for error is a luxury Cincinnati simply doesn’t have as it plays out a lost season, and bettors browsing the DraftKings promo code offers this weekend will find plenty of markets built around exactly this kind of gap in team quality.

Prediction and Best Bet

The season series, the pitching matchup, and the overall talent gap all point in the same direction. Drohan gives Milwaukee a real edge on the mound, and the Brewers’ lineup has feasted on Cincinnati pitching all year, including seven earned runs allowed in a June meeting and double-digit hit totals in multiple other contests. The Reds will get theirs from De La Cruz, but that likely won’t be enough against a Milwaukee club playing with house money down the stretch.

  • Prediction: Brewers 6, Reds 3
  • Best Bet: Brewers -1.5 on the run line

Given how thoroughly Milwaukee has dominated this matchup in 2026 and the clear talent disparity on both sides of the ball, the Brewers covering a run and a half feels like the safer play over a straight moneyline bet that offers little value at this price.
