He’s not cooling off either: Schwarber went 1-for-5 with a grand slam in Wednesday’s win over this very Astros team, so the thunder is fresh.
Today he draws Houston right-hander Cristian Javier, who is sporting a bloated 5.98 ERA and a 1.55 WHIP. Javier has struggled to keep the ball in the yard all year, and Citizens Bank Park is one of the most hitter-friendly parks in the league for left-handed power. Books have Schwarber’s homer prop sitting at +196, which means the market is pricing him below his true season rate against a pitcher who’s clearly struggling. When the league’s home run leader gets a shaky arm in a launching pad, that’s the kind of matchup props are made for.
Cal Raleigh’s Power Surge Meets a Pitcher’s Park
Cal Raleigh (SEA #29, C) has 21 home runs in 111 games this year — 17.1% of his games have ended with a Raleigh homer, and his bat has been scalding lately. Over his last 10 games he’s 13-for-37 with five doubles and three home runs, and his OPS over the last week has been north of 1.2. This isn’t a cold bat catching heat; it’s a hot bat that’s been hot for a while.
The matchup is Jacob deGrom at T-Mobile Park, and yes, deGrom is a legitimate ace with a career resume that speaks for itself. But even elite pitchers give up homers to elite power hitters, and Raleigh’s homer prop is priced at +310 — plenty of room for value given how consistently he’s finding the barrel right now. T-Mobile Park plays a bit pitcher-friendly overall, but that’s exactly why the number is inflated in the catcher’s favor. Raleigh doesn’t need a hitter’s park when he’s squaring up the ball like this.
Bryce Harper Keeps Driving Runs In
Bryce Harper (PHI #3, 1B) has been quietly excellent lately, going 13-for-37 with a pair of doubles over his last 10 games, and his season average sits at .271 with plenty of RBI opportunities hitting near the top of a loaded Phillies lineup. Today’s spot is another shot at Houston’s Cristian Javier, who’s allowed hard contact and free passes at an uncomfortable rate all season (that 1.55 WHIP tells the story).
Harper’s Over 0.5 RBI prop is sitting between +150 and +155 depending on the book, and with Philadelphia’s lineup stacked around him — Schwarber mashing, Turner on base, Arraez spraying doubles all over the yard — Harper is going to get chances to drive in a run. One knock, that’s all it takes to cash.
