We have arrived at the second full week of college football action, and there are a lot of strong matchups on the schedule. After taking a deep dive into all of them, the contest between No. 18 Oklahoma and No. 15 Michigan was one of the most intriguing, so we decided to take all of our player prop analysis and pour it into this one.
Both of these teams certainly have something to prove this season, as they are ranked early on and want to keep their foot on the gas. They are each coming off dominant wins against opponents they were supposed to blow out of the water and face their first true test this week.
We’re excited to see what happens in this game, as Oklahoma is a 5.5-point favorite, but anything can happen in college football. With that in mind, let’s get into our favorite player props from Underdog!
John Mateer OVER 233.5 Passing Yards
We’re not sure what we were expecting from Mateer against Illinois State last week, but it certainly wasn’t a 392-yard day where he threw three touchdowns. Mateer started the season with a phenomenal performance, something that not many quarterbacks did in their first game.
This could be the start of a strong trend moving forward, which could cause oddsmakers to make this line higher and higher as the season goes on. Michigan’s defense is a lot more daunting than Illinois State’s, but he should have plenty of opportunities to throw for at least 234 yards.
He isn’t afraid to sling the rock, even if it leads to an interception or two, which is why we’re more than confident in him to deliver in this game.
Jaren Kanak OVER 28.5 Receiving Yards
We knew that we wanted to pair a receiver with Mateer since we’re taking his over, and Jaren Kanak made the most sense in our eyes. Kanak had the third-most receptions for Oklahoma last week, behind Keontez Lewis and Deion Burks.
Michigan might have their eyes set on those other two players more than Kanak, hopefully giving him more opportunities to be open and stretch the field. He might not be open enough to have a 48-yard reception again this week, but as long as he gets a few catches, hitting the over on yards shouldn’t be a problem.
Bryce Underwood UNDER 191.5 Passing Yards
While we liked what we saw out of Mateer last week and are confident in him having a similar performance in this one, we can’t say the same about Bryce Underwood. New Mexico made him look good last week, as he threw for 251 yards on 31 attempts, but Oklahoma’s defense is no joke.
They only gave up 34 passing yards last week to two quarterbacks, and Underwood doesn’t have the experience we’re looking for to overcome that strong of a secondary. We need to see it to believe it from him against a premier opponent, so we’re fading his passing yardage totals until further notice.
