The AFC will be on full display Monday Night in a primetime doubleheader. The nightcap features the Cincinnati Bengals (2-1) traveling west to Denver to take on the Broncos (1-2) at 8:15 p.m.
Cincinnati is learning how to win without its top quarterback. Joe Burrow remains sidelined for this game, forcing Jake Browning into the starting role. He’s got plenty of weapons to choose from, including two of the top receivers in the NFL.
The Broncos have suffered a couple of bad-luck losses to start the season. Both the Indianapolis Colts and Los Angeles Chargers kicked game-winning field goals as time expired, resulting in a pair of heartbreaking losses for Denver.
Can the Bengals make it three straight defeats for a team eyeing the top spot in the AFC West? We’ll cover that and provide bettors with our three favorite player props below.
Denver Broncos QB Bo Nix OVER 218.5 Passing Yards
The prevailing logic for this contest is that Denver will run the football at will against Cincinnati. The better take is that the Bengals have a porous pass defense. Cincy has allowed Cleveland’s Joe Flacco and Jacksonville’s Trevor Lawrence to post over 270 passing yards to open the season, figures that stand as their best marks thus far.
That’s why bettors should look closely at Denver quarterback Bo Nix and his passing totals for Monday night. While he’s yet to post over 206 passing yards in a single game, he’s thrown at least 25 attempts each outing. He’ll connect on several big throws Monday night, covering this player’s passing prop total.
Cincinnati Bengals RB Chase Brown UNDER 53.5 Rushing Yards
Without Burrow, the Browns are looking for their playmakers at the skilled positions to carry the load. Cincinnati has a strong running back in Chase Brown to help ease Browning’s workload. He’s not done so thus far, averaging just under two yards a rushing attempt and scoring only one touchdown.
The Colts’ Jonathan Taylor and Chargers running back Omarion Hampton have posted big games against Denver in back-to-back weeks. The Bengals’ offensive line is nowhere near as competent as those two opponents. Expect Brown will fail to cover this player prop bet during these two teams’ primetime matchup.
Denver Broncos RB R.J. Harvey OVER 10.5 Receiving Yards
The Broncos have a backfield-by-committee approach. Veterans J.K. Dobbins and Tyler Badie are joined by rookie R.J. Harvey, and the trio has combined for over 300 rushing yards and 70 receiving yards in their first three outings.
With Cincinnati’s run defense being shredded in each outing thus far, oddsmakers have high totals for each running back. The better bet is looking at Harvey’s receiving total for this game.
Through three outings, he’s been targeted six times, notching at least 14 yards in the past two games. Harvey will make it three straight outings with at least 11 receiving yards, covering this player prop bet.
Best Bet: Denver (-7.5)
The spread in this contest is a rare feat. Usually, a team with a winning record will be a close underdog on the road – especially when the other team has a losing record. But this contest isn’t an ordinary game.
Denver has a lot to prove. Expect the Broncos to take out some of their early-season frustrations on Browning and the Bengals, winning this game by more than their 7.5-point spread on Monday night.
