Maryland’s six casinos combined for $156.8 million in revenue from slot machines and table games during June 2026, according to figures released by state officials this week. The total was down 2.4% from June 2025, marking a modest but notable decline for one of the mid-Atlantic’s more established regional casino markets.

Casino gaming contributions to the state totaled $67.9 million for the month, a 0.9% decrease year-over-year, while contributions to Maryland’s Education Trust Fund reached $48.9 million, down 1.0% compared to the same month last year. The Education Trust Fund remains one of the primary justifications state lawmakers cite when defending Maryland’s casino gaming tax structure, funneling a significant share of gaming revenue directly into public education spending.

A Down Fiscal Year Overall

The June decline caps off a broader downward trend for Maryland’s fiscal year 2026, which ran from July 2025 through June 2026. Over that full 12-month period, Maryland casinos generated $1.93 billion in gaming revenue, a 1.7% decrease from the previous fiscal year. State contributions for the full year totaled $831 million, down 1.1% year-over-year.

The dip comes as Maryland’s regional casino market continues to face competition from neighboring states, as well as from the broader shift toward online and mobile gaming options that have drawn some discretionary gambling spend away from brick-and-mortar casino floors. Maryland legalized online sports betting in 2022 and has seen steady growth in that vertical even as traditional casino revenue has softened.

Regional Context

Maryland’s decline stands in contrast to some neighboring markets that have posted gains this year, illustrating the uneven nature of regional casino performance even within similar geographic and demographic markets. Whether Maryland’s casino revenue stabilizes or continues its modest slide will likely depend on factors including new competitive openings in nearby states, continued growth in the state’s online betting and casino markets, and broader consumer spending trends heading into the back half of 2026.

State gaming officials will release July figures next month, giving a clearer picture of whether the June softness represents a short-term blip or the start of a more sustained trend for Maryland’s casino industry heading into the second half of the calendar year.
