Three games, three goal-hungry stops across the continent, and one very sneaky assist prop. Monday’s NHL board is short, but it is not short on flavor, so we grabbed the three plays we like best and threw the pucks-and-pretzels energy right on top.
Two anytime goal scorers and one assist prop make up tonight’s menu, all with plus-money prices that do not require a perfect night to cash. If you like your hockey bets with a little juice and a lot of attitude, pull up a chair.
Zach Hyman Anytime Goal Scorer (+190)
Hyman has had a stop-start opening to the season. He missed six games with an undisclosed injury, then came back on Oct. 18 and scored a power-play goal in a 6-2 win over Utah. That is one goal in two games played, and he is back on the first power-play unit, where he logged more than five minutes with the man advantage on opening night.
Edmonton hosts Detroit at 9:30 p.m. ET as a heavy home favorite, and the Red Wings come in at 4-4-3. When the Oilers are rolling, the power play is where Hyman does his dirty work, parking in front and cleaning up rebounds. He scored 31 goals in just 58 games last year, so the finishing touch is not in question, only the minutes.
FanDuel has him at +190, and the Dimers model puts his real probability at 37.6 percent, a 3.1 percent edge. Anytime scorers are a staple of NHL odds boards for a reason, and this one is priced a touch too long.
Adrian Kempe Anytime Goal Scorer (+175)
The Kings are 2-5-2 and have been dropping games, but Kempe has not been the problem. He has three goals in nine games, and he lit up Washington for two goals and six shots on net on Oct. 21 in a 5-2 win. He also assisted on Scott Laughton’s goal in Saturday’s loss at New Jersey, so the production keeps flowing even when the team does not.
The role is what we love. Kempe skates on the top line with Artemi Panarin and Alex Laferriere and sits on the first power-play unit alongside Panarin, Laferriere, Zuccarello and Brandt Clarke. That is a lot of high-end touches for a shooter who fires the puck relentlessly.
The Rangers are 7-5-1 and Madison Square Garden will be loud at 7:00 p.m. ET, but a team that has to chase a game tends to feed its best shooter. Around +175 is a very fair number for a player scoring in a third of his games with PP1 time.
Matvei Gridin to Record an Assist (+205)
Now for the fun one. Calgary’s Gridin has two goals and three assists through 10 games, with two of those helpers coming on the power play, and he is averaging just under 15 minutes a night. He is a young forward who has been creating offense for his linemates and sits among the Flames’ top point producers.
Toronto visits the Saddledome at 8:30 p.m. ET in a game with a 6.5-goal total, which points to plenty of pucks in the net. More goals mean more assist chances, and the Flames’ top six has Morgan Frost and Yegor Sharangovich scoring regularly, exactly the kind of finishers Gridin feeds.
DraftKings is offering +205, while the Dimers model gives him a 38.3 percent chance, a 5.5 percent edge and the biggest gap of any play in this article. If you are new to how these prices work, our guide to how betting odds work breaks down why a +205 price implies just over a 32 percent chance.
Lock These In
That is the whole menu: a power-play specialist coming off an injury, a top-line sniper on a slumping team, and a value assist in a high-total game. Shop around before you tap submit, since a half-step in price adds up over a long season.
- Zach Hyman anytime goal scorer (+190 at FanDuel)
- Adrian Kempe anytime goal scorer (about +175)
- Matvei Gridin to record an assist (+205 at DraftKings)
Odds move fast, so check your book before you bet and keep the units small. Happy hunting, and may all your pucks find twine.
