3 NHL Best-of-the-Board Props to Back on November 8

Eichel, Martone and Tkachuk headline our three best NHL shots on goal props for Sunday’s slate, with real odds and the stats behind each pick.

Sunday’s NHL slate is a quiet six-game affair, which is exactly the kind of day when a sharp bettor can do some damage. Nobody is lining up to throw a parade for a puck-line coin flip, but shots on goal markets? Those are where the board gets interesting. Today’s menu is a three-course shots special, and the chef is feeling spicy.

We went through the shot projections, the recent game logs and the matchups, and landed on three prop bets that sit in the sweet spot between “the book is being generous” and “the player is about to fire away.” Grab a snack, settle in for the early game, and let’s talk pucks on net.

Jack Eichel Over 2.5 Shots on Goal (-105)

Eichel and the Golden Knights visit Buffalo for a 3:30 PM ET start, and the number here is begging for a bounce-back. Vegas’s top center has gone over 2.5 shots in just 4 of his last 10 games, and a quiet stretch, including a single shot in two straight games and a goose egg against New Jersey, has dragged his season average down to roughly 2.4 per game. That is well below the 3.5 he averaged across last season, which is the whole point: this is a shooter running cold, not a shooter who forgot how.

The recent log is also more encouraging than the average suggests. Eichel put four or more shots on net in Vegas’s win at Detroit earlier this week, a sign the volume is returning. Edgehalla’s projection model has him at 2.78 expected shots with a 51% chance of getting to three or more, and he is skating north of 21 minutes a night with nearly four minutes of power-play time. Dimers puts the over at 63.1% probability, which makes a -105 price at DraftKings look like a gift.

Buffalo is also not a defensive wall. Their own star, Tage Thompson, is averaging 3.8 shots over his last 10, and the Sabres tend to play games that open up. More shifts in a back-and-forth game means more looks for Eichel. If you like checking the market before you pull the trigger, our NHL odds page is a handy place to compare numbers.

Porter Martone Over 1.5 Shots on Goal (-140)

Moving west, the Flyers visit Calgary for a 7 PM ET puck drop, and rookie winger Porter Martone is the target. Yes, the juice is steep at -140, and yes, he finished with a single shot in each of his last two games, against Minnesota and the Rangers. So why are we here? Because Dimers gives the over a 67.1% chance, comfortably above the roughly 58% break-even for -140.

Martone is not a pure volume shooter, and it is worth being honest about that. His shot average over the last 10 is around 1.7, and he logged two shots in each of the Flyers’ games against Utah and at Washington before the recent dip. But context matters. He is getting time on the Flyers’ first power-play unit alongside Trevor Zegras and Matvei Michkov, and that unit is where multi-shot nights are born. Philadelphia is also generating about 25.7 shots a game over its last 10, so the offense is not starved for volume.

The Flames, meanwhile, have been allowing around 30.6 shots per game over their last 10. A defense that bleeds shots against a power-play regular on a young, aggressive line is a good spot to lean over. It is a price play, not a hero play, and that is perfectly fine. If you are new to reading prices like -140, our guide on how betting odds work breaks it down.

Brady Tkachuk Over 3.5 Shots on Goal (+110)

For the early risk-takers, Panthers at Bruins kicks off at 1 PM ET, and Brady Tkachuk is the plus-money play of the day. The over 3.5 is sitting at +110, and Tkachuk is the kind of player who can blow past that number without warning. He fired seven shots and scored twice in Saturday’s loss at Washington, and he has 7 goals and 7 assists over his last 10 games, which is the production of a player completely locked in.

Edgehalla’s projection gives him a 62% chance of getting to three or more shots, and his ice time is the real story: he skated more than 21 minutes against the Capitals, including more than eight minutes on the power play. That is a big jump from the 14-to-17-minute workloads he carried through much of October. Power-play time is shot-volume fuel, and Tkachuk’s tank is full.

The risk is real, and we will not pretend otherwise. He has gone over 3.5 in only 4 of 10 outings through early November and 6 of 16 this season, and a few of those games ended with one or two shots. That is exactly why plus money is the right price: you only need this to hit a little more than 47% of the time to profit, and with his role and recent usage, we like those odds. If you want the full picture on prop strategy, our types of bets primer covers how player markets differ from sides and totals.

Lock These In

Three games, three shot-volume bets, and a nice spread of risk: a near pick’em on a star who is due, a priced-up play on a rookie in a juicy matchup, and a plus-money swing on a red-hot winger with a growing role. Always shop around, since lines move and your book may differ from what we saw.

  • Jack Eichel (VGK) OVER 2.5 shots on goal (-105 at DraftKings)
  • Porter Martone (PHI) OVER 1.5 shots on goal (-140 at DraftKings)
  • Brady Tkachuk (FLA) OVER 3.5 shots on goal (+110 at DraftKings and ESPN)

Bet responsibly, only wager what you can afford to lose, and enjoy the game. Hockey is much more fun when the puck is going toward the net.
