Thursday night’s NHL slate is loaded, and three props stand out above the rest of the board tonight. We’re not sticking to one bet type here — we went hunting for the single best plays available regardless of whether they’re goal scorer markets or point totals, and we landed on three names who are all trending in the exact right direction against exactly the matchups they want.
Cole Caufield is red-hot against an old rival, Clayton Keller is riding a season-opening point streak into Boston, and Tim Stutzle has been the most dangerous forward in hockey through the first week of the season. Here’s why each one deserves a spot on your card tonight.
Cole Caufield Anytime Goal Scorer vs Nashville
Cole Caufield has already scored in two of his first three games this season, and he’s got a history of torching the Predators specifically — seven goals in 10 career meetings with Nashville. Tonight he gets them again at the Bell Centre, and the betting market is lining up behind him. Best available odds on Caufield to score an anytime goal sit at +131, and Dimers’ model puts his true probability closer to 46-47%, making this their top player prop on the entire board tonight.
The underlying process backs it up. Caufield has generated 13 individual shot attempts and seven scoring chances already through three games, numbers that point to a shooter who is getting to his spots consistently rather than running hot by accident. Montreal is also a heavy favorite in this one at home, which tends to mean more offensive zone time and more looks for its top shooters. When the model’s win probability and the market price line up this cleanly on a top pick, it’s worth paying attention.
Clayton Keller Over 1.5 Points vs Boston
Clayton Keller has been nothing short of a point-producing machine to open the year. He’s riding a season-long point streak through his first four games, racking up seven points (a goal and six assists) and sharing the team scoring lead with Nick Schmaltz. Over his last 10 games dating back to last season, Keller leads Utah with 12 points on 2 goals and 10 assists — the volume of helpers he’s piling up is exactly the profile you want for an over on points.
Utah travels to Boston Thursday night sitting atop the Central Division and tied for the West’s top seed, while the Bruins have stumbled to a 2-2-0 start and sit eighth in the East. Five of Keller’s seven points this season have already come on the power play, and if Utah’s man-advantage unit keeps getting chances against a Boston penalty kill that hasn’t looked sharp early, Keller’s floor for involvement stays high. Getting him over 1.5 points against a team he’s lit up for seven points in his last four head-to-head games is squarely in his wheelhouse.
Tim Stutzle Over 0.5 Points vs Philadelphia
Nobody in hockey has been better through the opening stretch than Tim Stutzle. The Senators’ center has three goals and three assists for six points in just three games, a pace that has him flirting with another run at the 80-point plateau. He capped off a win over Boston with a two-goal, one-assist performance, including the shorthanded game-winner, and he’s doing it all while playing over 21 minutes a night.
Ottawa is favored at home Thursday against a Philadelphia team that has managed just two points through its first four games, and the model likes Stutzle’s chances of extending his point streak at a strong 66% probability of recording at least one point. With the Senators favored and Stutzle clearly the engine of this offense right now, betting him to simply get on the scoresheet again feels like one of the safer plays on the board tonight.
