3 Best NHL Props to Back on October 11: Ovechkin, McCann, Foerster

From a shots-on-goal lock to a plus-money goal-scorer edge, here are the three best NHL player props across Sundays entire slate.

Sunday’s NHL slate is stacked, and instead of overthinking it, we went hunting for the three best prop bets on the entire board regardless of category. That means shots on goal, points props, and a juicy goal-scorer price all made the cut today. When the value is this spread out, you take it where you find it.

These three hit different corners of the prop menu, but each one is backed by real recent form and a matchup that plays right into it. Let’s get into the best of the board for Sunday, October 11.

Ovechkin Keeps Firing Pucks at the Net

Alex Ovechkin is playing his 21st and final NHL season, and the shot volume hasn’t slowed down one bit. He fired 334 shots on goal last year, trailing only Auston Matthews league-wide, and he’s picked up right where he left off — 29 shots through his first seven games this season. Over his last five outings in October alone, Ovechkin has put 24 pucks on net, an average well north of 4.5 shots a game.

Tonight he’s at home against Seattle, a Kraken team that’s given up plenty of rubber early this season, and Ovechkin gets a full workload on the power play in addition to even-strength shifts. The Over 2.5 Shots on Goal number at -135 is pricing in a player who’s hit that mark in the bulk of his appearances this month. Washington is also the heavy favorite on the moneyline tonight, which typically means more offensive-zone time and more looks for their top shooter.

Betting shots props is one of the more sustainable angles in player prop markets precisely because volume shooters like Ovechkin rarely have cold stretches in attempts, even when the puck isn’t going in.

McCann Riding a Red-Hot Points Streak

Jared McCann has been one of the best stories in the NHL through the first two weeks of the season. The Kraken winger has racked up 5 points — a goal and four assists — in just four games played, good for a point-per-game pace that’s tied for one of the better marks in the league early on. He’s currently riding a two-game point streak and has been Seattle’s most consistent top-six weapon.

McCann is skating big minutes (nearly 16 a night) and seeing real power-play time, which is where a chunk of his assist totals have come from. Facing a Capitals team on the road tonight, the Over 0.5 Points prop at -105 is about as close to a coin-flip price as you’ll find for a player who has recorded a point in basically every game he’s suited up for this season. When a guy is hitting the scoresheet at this rate, laying modest juice to back him again is good business.

Foerster’s Goal-Scorer Value Against Carolina

This is the value play of the bunch. Tyson Foerster has struggled to find the back of the net much this season — just one goal through his first six games — but the Flyers winger has quietly been generating looks, including four shots in his lone goal-scoring performance against Tampa Bay on October 5. Tonight he gets Carolina at home, and oddsmakers are offering him at +265 to score anytime.

What makes this one stand out is the model math behind it. Dimers’ projection system has Foerster’s anytime goal as one of its top-rated plays on the entire NHL slate tonight, pegging his true scoring probability right around 29-30% against a price that implies closer to 27%. That’s a real, sizable edge on a player who’s shown flashes of finishing ability already this year and gets a full shift role (18-plus minutes a night) in a game Carolina is favored to control possession in — which often means more Flyers chances off the rush and on the power play.

Plus-money goal-scorer bets are inherently variance-heavy, but when the model is flagging a near-3% edge, it’s worth a stake.

Today’s Edge

Three different markets, three different reasons to like them — that’s the beauty of taking the board’s best bets instead of forcing a single-category card. Here’s how we’re stacking Sunday’s slate:

  • Alex Ovechkin Over 2.5 Shots on Goal (-135)
  • Jared McCann Over 0.5 Points (-105)
  • Tyson Foerster Anytime Goal Scorer (+265)

Mix a heavy favorite, a near coin-flip, and a plus-money long shot, and you’ve got a card built for both consistency and a little bit of upside.
