We’ve hit the midpoint of the 2023 NFL season. With all teams having played at least seven games now, bettors know which teams and players can be trusted to deliver results. In multiple games this week, savvy bettors can score great odds on player prop bets.
Which players should you be on the lookout for in Week 9? After hitting on more than 40% of our underdog bets this season – and over 60% overall for NFL wagers – continue reading to see our top five NFL Week 9 Anytime TD player prop bets.
After missing the first three games this season due to injury, Colts RB Jonathan Taylor finally returned to form over the past two weeks. Against New Orleans and Cleveland, Taylor rushed 30 times for 170 yards and a TD while catching four passes for 47 yards. His return to form could not have occurred at a more-opportune time for Indianapolis.
Carolina – this week’s opponent – is the worst NFL team when it comes to RBs scoring against them. Despite not surrendering a TD to the Houston Texans’ RBs last week, the Panthers have allowed 15 total TDs to backfield players through seven games. Expect Taylor to capitalize on Carolina’s rushing defense weaknesses and score in Week 9.
Philadelphia QB Jalen Hurts . In his career, Hurts has rushed for 2,178 yards with a 4.9 yards per rush average and 32 rushing TDs. This season. Hurts has carried the ball 78 times for 280 yards and six TDs.
In four career games against Dallas, Hurts has never scored a rushing TD against the Cowboys. Surprisingly, the Eagles star is averaging 43 yards per contest against Dallas and averaging nearly 4.9 yards per rush. Expect Hurts to finally find the endzone against Philadelphia’s NFC East rival Sunday afternoon.
After taking over primary backfield duties from RB Miles Sanders, Panthers RB Chuba Hubbard has provided rookie QB Bryce Young with some added firepower for this moribound offense. Hubbard has rushed for 192 yards on 52 carries and one score while he caught six passes for 40 yards.
Hubbard – like Indianapolis’ Jonathan Taylor – faces a bad rushing defense, making for an enticing player prop bet. The Colts are ponying up TDs to opponents’ backfield players this season, allowing 14 scores through eight games. Expect Hubbard to score his second TD of the season – either receiving or on the ground – in this Week 9 matchup against Indianapolis.
With New England WR Kendrick Bourne out for the year, look for the Patriots to turn to rookie Demario Douglas as their top receiving option. Over the past two games, Douglas has caught nine of his 13 targets for 79 yards while also rushing twice for 24 yards. The speedy sixth-round pick has been a pleasant surprise for New England thus far.
Expect Douglas to score this week against the Commanders. Washington is the NFL’s worst scoring defense against WRs in 2023, giving up 13 TDs through eight games to receivers. After not allowing a TD in two straight games, the Commanders’ defensive backfield was eviscerated by Philadelphia last week for four scoring strikes to WRs.
Individually, this is the highest pick we’ve ever recommended. Known more for his arm than his legs, Houston QB C.J. Stroud is having a better-than-expected rookie season. The Ohio State product has thrown for 1,800 yards in the NFL, connecting with targets for nine TDs against only one INT through seven games.
Although Stroud is consistently under pressure, the pocket passer has also ran the football 20 times for 68 yards and a lone score. And Tampa Bay is the league’s worst at surrendering opposing QBs rushing TDs.
The Buccaneers have yielded four scores on the ground to mobile passers. While Stroud prefers to pass, expect the rookie signal caller to call his own number a few times Sunday and earn his second rushing TD this season.
