Elimination baseball hits different, and Wednesday night into Thursday’s slate is stacked with win-or-go-home drama across three Game 3 matchups. When the stakes get this high, the stars usually show up — and the betting board is practically begging you to ride the two biggest bats in the sport plus a strikeout artist who just can’t miss lately.
We went off the board for this one. Forget picking a lane — this is the best of everything, stitched together from three different win-or-go-home games. Two true sluggers chasing home run props at plus-money, and a starting pitcher who’s been automatic with the strikeout button. Here’s the case for all three.
Pete Crow-Armstrong to Go Deep Against the Padres
Pete Crow-Armstrong (CHC #4, CF) enters Game 3 of the NL Wild Card Series with a home run prop sitting at over 0.5 around +304 to +320, depending on the book, and after the season he just had, that number looks generous. Crow-Armstrong led all of baseball with 45 home runs this year, drove in 107 runs, hit .280, and posted a .943 OPS that ranked second in the entire league. He’s also one of just seven players in MLB history to reach 40 homers and 40 steals in the same season — this is not a guy who’s merely having a nice year, he’s having an MVP-caliber one.
The hits side is arguably even safer. Crow-Armstrong’s hits prop over 0.5 is priced around -200, and for good reason — he hits leadoff for a Cubs lineup that finished the regular season with baseball’s best team OPS, which means he’s guaranteed the most plate appearances on the roster every single game. He closed the regular season on a tear too, hitting .288 with four homers and a .977 OPS over his final two weeks. Betting against volume and form at the top of a scorching lineup is a tough way to make money in October.
Kyle Schwarber’s Power Still Plays in Atlanta
Kyle Schwarber (PHI #12, DH) walks into Game 3 of the Phillies-Braves Wild Card series at Truist Park with a home run prop over 0.5 sitting around +290, and this is about as straightforward a power play as the board offers. Schwarber led all of MLB with 45 home runs this season, and his raw home run rate — right around 24.7% of games featuring a long ball — is the best on either roster by a wide margin.
Elimination games don’t scare him. Schwarber has made a career out of parking balls in big moments, and Atlanta’s bullpen has been shaky against left-handed power all season, ranking in the bottom half of the league in home runs allowed per nine innings since August. When the Phillies need a season-saving swing, Schwarber is the first name manager Don Mattingly is counting on, and the sportsbooks pricing him at nearly 3-to-1 odds are leaving real value on the table given how often that ball is leaving the yard for him right now.
Ranger Suarez Strikes Out the Yankees Lineup
Ranger Suarez now takes the ball for the Boston Red Sox in Game 3 of the AL Wild Card Series against Gerrit Cole and the Yankees, and his strikeout prop over 6.5 looks very catchable. Suarez finished the regular season 8-5 with a sharp 3.22 ERA and racked up 140 strikeouts across his starts — a strong debut campaign after signing his five-year, $130 million deal with Boston this past offseason.
The real signal here is his recent form. Over his last five starts, Suarez has been dialed in with a 2.70 ERA, a notable step up from his season-long number, and that kind of late-season sharpness tends to carry directly into October. The Yankees lineup has chase tendencies against quality left-handed breaking stuff, and with the Red Sox needing length from their starter in an elimination game, Suarez figures to get every chance to work deep into this one and rack up strikeout after strikeout. If you want a safer entry point into this card, this is exactly where MLB odds tend to undervalue a pitcher riding real momentum.
Lock These In
Three different games, three different win-or-go-home nights, and three of the best prices on the entire board. When you’ve got two home run leaders in plus-money spots and a pitcher who just turned a corner with his strikeout stuff, that’s the kind of card worth building a parlay around — or just playing straight and letting the numbers work.
- Pete Crow-Armstrong OVER 0.5 Home Runs (+304) and OVER 0.5 Hits (-200)
- Kyle Schwarber OVER 0.5 Home Runs (+290)
- Ranger Suarez OVER 6.5 Strikeouts (check your book)
Elimination baseball brings out the best in the best players, and all three of these picks are betting on exactly that trend continuing.
