Halloween means ten NHL games, a few frights for your bankroll, and plenty of treats if you pick your spots well. Instead of staring at every prop on a loaded Saturday board, we narrowed it down to three plays that mix a shot total, a goalie saves number and an anytime goal scorer.
The common thread is simple: each of these players has a clear reason to hit tonight, whether it is shot volume, a game script that limits the work for a goalie, or a matchup against a leaky crease. Always check your book for the current line before you bet, because numbers move all day.
Brandon Hagel Shots on Goal Over: Lightning Winger Keeps Firing
Brandon Hagel has been one of the most active shooters on the Tampa Bay Lightning, putting up 8 goals and 8 assists in his first 12 games while averaging 21:35 of ice time. He has 55 shots on goal so far, which works out to about 4.58 per game, and he has reached three or more shots in eight of his last ten outings. His recent log reads 5, 7, 2, 3, 5, 6, 1, 6, 3 and 8, so the floor is low only occasionally and the ceiling is big.
Tampa Bay visits Nashville in a 2 p.m. ET start and is a roughly -165 to -170 favorite at most books with a total near 6.5. Hagel skates on the top power-play unit with Brayden Point, Jake Guentzel, Nikita Kucherov and John Carlson, and projections put him around 22 minutes tonight, including nearly four on the man advantage. Public projection models give him roughly a 63 percent chance at three or more shots.
The play is Hagel over his shots on goal line. If your book hangs 2.5, that is a gift based on his season rate; at 3.5 it is still a number he has topped in six of his last ten, with the benefit of extra power-play looks. Shop around, because a player prop search can show you which book is offering the friendliest number.
Jeremy Swayman Saves: Bruins Goalie Sees a Quiet Night
Boston hosts the Chicago Blackhawks at 1 p.m. ET as a big favorite, around -225 on the moneyline. Jeremy Swayman is 7-3-1 with a .912 save percentage and a 2.35 goals-against average, and he has made 271 saves across 11 games, about 24.6 a night. His recent starts have swung wildly, from 14 saves to 36, so this is a volatile market.
That volatility is exactly why you need to be careful with the side. Chicago enters at 4-9, and when a heavy favorite controls the game, the opposing shot count tends to shrink as the lead grows. Swayman’s most recent posted saves line was 29.5, and if your book is still hanging a number around that level, the under is the more comfortable lean given his season average sits well beneath it.
Treat this as the most price-sensitive pick on the card. If the line drops to 24.5 or lower, the value disappears, and you should pass or move to a different market. Understanding how betting odds work helps here, because the juice on each side tells you which way the book is leaning.
Auston Matthews Anytime Goal Scorer: Leafs Star Meets a Weak Crease
Auston Matthews looks like his old self. He has 10 goals and 13 assists this season, is averaging 0.67 goals per game, and has been scoring at a 0.8 per-game clip over his last ten. Toronto’s offense has been one of the best in the league, and Matthews has been particularly dangerous on the power play.
The Maple Leafs visit Vancouver at 7 p.m. ET as roughly -155 to -160 favorites with a total of 6.5. The Canucks have been shaky in net, with their goalies sitting in the .875 to .881 save percentage range, and Leevi Merilainen is the projected starter. Matthews’ recent anytime goal prices have closed between +115 and +170, which is a fair return for a player scoring at this rate against a goaltending group that has struggled.
The anytime goal market is where a small stake can have the most fun on Halloween night. If you want to stack it with other Toronto legs, our guide to same game parlays walks through how to combine props without overcomplicating your slip.
Lock These In Before the Puck Drops
Three props, three different markets, and three very different games. Hagel offers volume, Swayman offers a game-script angle, and Matthews offers a high-upside price against a vulnerable goalie. Confirm every line at your book before betting.
- Brandon Hagel OVER shots on goal (check your book for the current line)
- Jeremy Swayman UNDER saves, only if the line is still near the high-20s (check your book)
- Auston Matthews anytime goal scorer (recent prices between +115 and +170, check your book)
Bet responsibly, keep your stakes small on a busy Saturday, and enjoy the treats that come with a full NHL slate on Halloween.
