Thursday’s slate has a little something for every kind of bettor, and we found three props worth throwing a few bucks on regardless of your style. A strikeout ace with one of the best ERAs in baseball, a shortstop riding a power spike, and a former MVP looking to snap out of a rare cold stretch round out today’s board. Let’s get into it.
This one’s a mixed bag on purpose — pitchers, power, and a bounce-back bet all in one card.
Chase Burns Strikeouts Against Philadelphia
Chase Burns has been one of the best pitchers in baseball this season, period. The Reds right-hander sits at 11-1 with a sparkling 2.54 ERA and 118 strikeouts across 102.2 innings, a strikeout rate that ranks sixth in the National League. He’s allowed two or fewer runs in 11 straight starts at one point this year, showing the kind of consistency that makes him a trustworthy strikeout piece even against good lineups.
He gets Philadelphia tonight at Great American Ball Park, and while his last outing was a shorter five-inning, two-strikeout start, his 15-start body of work supports betting on the talent over one blip. Check your book for his current strikeout total — given his season-long 10-plus K/9 pace, a moderate number here still carries real value.
Corey Seager Total Bases in Texas
Corey Seager has quietly turned it on with the long ball lately. Over his last seven games, the Rangers shortstop is 4-for-23 with two home runs, three RBI, and six walks — a .435 slugging percentage in that stretch that shows real thump even though the batting average hasn’t caught up yet. Seager’s track record as one of the more dangerous left-handed bats in the league backs up the power surge.
He gets the Angels tonight in Arlington, with Reid Detmers on the mound for Los Angeles. Detmers has real swing-and-miss stuff, but he’s also given up plenty of loud contact this year despite his ERA outpacing his peripherals. Given Seager’s two homers in his last seven games, a total bases prop in the 1.5 range fits his recent per-game trend well.
Bryce Harper Looking to Break Out of a Slump
Bryce Harper has had a genuinely quiet week at the plate — just 4-for-25 with no home runs over his last seven games, though he’s still drawn six walks in that stretch, a sign he’s not chasing his way into outs even while the hits aren’t falling. Across the full season, Harper still owns 20 home runs and 57 RBI, both marks of a hitter who hasn’t lost anything, just hit a rough patch.
Philadelphia is in Cincinnati tonight, and a Reds pitching staff that’s given up plenty of production all year sets up as a reasonable spot for Harper to snap out of it. A hits prop in the 1-hit range is a fair target given his track record of not staying cold for long, even if this particular week has been a genuine rough stretch.
Today’s Juiciest Card
