The college football season is flying by faster than fans might want, as we’re already entering Week 5! Some teams have established themselves as legitimate contenders, while others have taken some time to warm up, hoping to catch fire in the back half of the season.
One team that’s on a roll at the moment is TCU, which recently moved to the No. 24 spot in the AP Poll. They’re 3-0 but have a tough matchup with Arizona State on Friday night, a game that many people are looking forward to. Can TCU keep its foot on the gas and stay undefeated? Or will ASU come out of the gates hot, handing them their first loss of the season?
We’re excited to watch it all play out. To make it that much more exciting, we’ve put our favorite Underdog player props together, so let’s go through our best picks!
Sam Leavitt OVER 212.5 Passing Yards
With a projected over/under of 55.5 points, oddsmakers expect this game to be a high-scoring, shootout affair. That being said, it seems like Sam Leavitt’s passing yardage line is a bit too low, so we’re riding with the over.
Leavitt has had two games this season with 213+ passing yards, including his 221-yard performance against Baylor last week. He certainly doesn’t have a 300+ yard ceiling like a lot of quarterbacks in college football do, but he shouldn’t have a problem gaining at least 230-250 yards in this one, especially against a TCU passing defense that allows 231 yards per game.
Josh Hoover UNDER 286.5 Passing Yards
This passing yardage line is really high, but it’s really high for a reason. Josh Hoover has thrown for 284+ yards in his three starts this season, which includes a 379-yard game against SMU last week. This trend might indicate to some that he’s due for another massive game, but we’re not so sure.
His volume has been fantastic through three weeks, averaging 34.3 attempts per game, but volume might not matter against ASU. They’re only allowing 237.7 passing yards per game, which indicates that their secondary could shut him down, something he hasn’t experienced to this point in the season.
Jordyn Tyson UNDER 89.5 Receiving Yards
Jordyn Tyson has been one of Sam Leavitt’s favorite targets this year, having 100+ receiving yards on two separate occasions. While this has been encouraging, we can’t bank on this level of production every week, which is why we’re fading his receiving total in this one.
Achieving 90 yards is difficult against any opponent, and while Leavitt should have a great game, we’re thinking he’ll spread the wealth, leaving Tyson to have less than 90 receiving yards.
