Hello, college football fans! Welcome to yet another day of Bowl Game action, giving us all something extra to look forward to on New Years Eve! There are a few exciting bowl games taking place today, including a highly regarded matchup between Alabama and Michigan, but our eyes are set on the Fiesta Bowl.
This is the first game of the second round of the expanded playoff format, an intriguing contest between Boise State and Penn State. Penn State is favored by nearly two touchdowns, but can BSU surprise us?
We put our favorite player props together ahead of this contest, all of which can be found on Underdog. Let’s get into it!
Ashton Jeanty was a Heisman finalist for a reason. He has put together one of the most impressive running back seasons in recent memory and has a chance to break the record for rushing yards with a strong performance in this game. BSU might struggle through the air, but we expect Jeanty to be a workhorse on the ground, racking up a plethora of yards like he’s done all year.
He might not have a 200+ yard game with 3+ touchdowns, but we are confident in his ability to hit at least 148 combined rushing and receiving yards in this one. Some people are worried that Penn State is going to shut him down, but we’re confident that Jeanty can break off some big runs and make this happen.
This game could very well come down to how well the top-tier running backs perform. Jeanty, of course, has been a tank for BSU, but Nicholas Singleton isn’t a slouch, either. He has performed well in big games thus far, putting up 90 yards on 14 carries against SMU in the first round, and logged 105 yards against Oregon on December 7th. Singleton’s line is set at 75.5 yards, a metric he’s hit in three straight games.
We’re sticking with him in this game, taking the over in a must-win matchup for the Nittany Lions.
Harrison Wallace III has been overshadowed by Tyler Warren this year, one of the most impressive tight ends in the nation. If Wallace were on another team, he might get more work and recognition in the passing game, as he has averaged 16 yards per reception this year, quite an impressive feat.
We’re convinced Drew Allar will look his way several times in this matchup, given that he’s surehanded and confident in his abilities. He’s achieved 42+ yards in all but two games this season, so we’re not betting against him now!
