Coastal Carolina at Jacksonville State Odds and Best Bet

Week 1 baby, here we go! We are glad to be back with another best bet of the day for everyone! We have a full slate of games tomorrow and a lot of data to comb through, but I do believe I have found a good spot to back, on a team continuing to trend up from last season.

Jacksonville St Will Continue to Improve

I am really liking what Rich Rod is doing down in Jacksonville. They did just have news Ron Wiggins RB is out 10 weeks, and they lost QB Zion Webb. Having said that, they still have Logan Smothers from last year and replaced Webb with Zion Turner who can make things happen with his feet.

Jacksonville St loves to pound the rock in this uniquely styled offense rushing 65% last season. Behind Wiggins, they have 3 very solid running backs who should be able to carry the ball and make impactful plays. They return 3 offensive linemen who were very good last season and are filling the other spots with transfers rather than younger players which should be fine.

They also return Pettway and Wells at WR, and Brown at TE which is going to help the cohesiveness of this unit. They also brought in three WR transfers, Rudolph from UAB, Dawson from Colorado, and Spector from Clemson who could make a big impact right away to improve the passing game.

This Defense Has Depth and Coastal Has Questions!

On the defensive side of the ball, Jacksonville State had the best defense in the league last season, but they took a big hit losing defensive coordinator Zac Alley. But they return a lot of depth and should be able to continue to thrive under new coordinator Luke Olson. I really like the players they brought in from some major schools that should make a big impact on the roster.

They allowed the 4th lowest yards per carry at 2.8 and they certainly will work to keep that a strength once again. Coastal has questions on both sides of the ball, they are trying to replace a very good QB in McCall who transferred, and their receiving corps has questions and did not do much in the transfer portal.

Other than their edge rushers and secondary, Coastal's defense could have some weak spots. I think the front 7 is going to struggle to stop the gamecocks running the ball all game. This should be a very exciting and close game, give me the points for the home team!

My Best Bet: Jacksonville St -2.5 (-120)
