BYU handled business in their season opener against a woeful Southern Illinois team. The defense held the Salukis to just 231 total yards en route to a 41-13 victory for the Cougars.
They easily covered the -13.5 spread, and the total went over early in the 4th quarter. Quarterback, Jake Retzlaff, threw for 348 yards and 3 touchdowns in the win. Junior wideout, Chase Roberts, caught 7 passes for 108 yards.
SMU played in week zero and has already won their 1st two games of the season. However, their opener in Nevada was a closer game than many expected. SMU was favored by 27.5 points and found themselves trailing for most of the game.
Down 24-23 with under 2 minutes remaining, Preston Stone hit RJ Maryland for a 34-yard touchdown pass that put the Mustangs on top for the final of 29-24.
Their 2nd game had a much more expected score as they handled Houston Baptist with ease, winning 59-7. Running back Brashard Smith has taken his 20 total carries for 175 yards and scored 3 touchdowns.
Saturday, October 12 at 4:05 PM | Spread | Money | Total |
Arizona Wildcats | +14.5 (390) | +3500 | |
BYU Cougars | -14.5 (-1200) | -30000 |
The Mustangs are favored by 10.5 in this contest and will be a much larger test for BYU than their opener against Southern Illinois. The line did originally open at 11.5 and has dipped down since.
While the public is slightly backing SMU at this point, it is not much to give us pause on the line movement. SMU may have gotten a wakeup call with their struggles in Nevada and we believe they will be better prepared for this matchup with the visiting Cougars.
