ACC Conference Winner Odds: Miami Still the Team to Beat in 2026

Miami hasn’t won an ACC title since joining the conference in 2004, but the oddsmakers think that two-decade drought is about to end, with the Hurricanes sitting as heavy favorites on every major sportsbook board.

Quick take:

  • Pick: Miami -145 (FanDuel)
  • Why: Returning quarterback Carson Beck and a loaded receiving corps give the Hurricanes the conference’s most complete offense with a soft path to Charlotte
  • The number to watch: Six of Miami’s nine ACC opponents were predicted to finish 10th or worse in the preseason media poll

The market has barely budged since ACC Kickoff over the summer. Miami opened as a favorite in the -135 to -155 range depending on the book, and it’s held right around there into August, with SMU and Louisville forming the clear second tier and Clemson lagging behind as a fallen power trying to climb back.

What makes this futures market interesting isn’t really the top of the board — it’s how thin the value gets once you move past the favorite. Miami’s price reflects both talent and schedule luck, while the gap between the Hurricanes and everyone else says a lot about how the league’s hierarchy has shifted since Clemson’s rough 2025 season.

Why the Market Has Already Made Up Its Mind

FanDuel had Miami at -145 to win the ACC as of late July, with Louisville and SMU both sitting at +750 and Clemson out at +1500. DraftKings and other books tell a similar story — Miami anywhere from -136 to -155, SMU and Louisville bunched together in the +700 to +800 range, and Clemson priced between +1200 and +1700. That’s not a market debating who the best team is; it’s a market that’s already decided and is now just fine-tuning the number.

The ACC’s preseason media poll backs that up almost exactly. Miami collected 165 of 188 possible first-place votes and easily outdistanced the field with 3,159 points, while SMU (2,794) and Louisville (2,569) rounded out the podium. Clemson, the preseason favorite a year ago, fell all the way to fourth with just seven first-place votes after a 4-4 conference season and its worst finish since 2010.

Top Contenders

Odds to win the 2026 ACC Championship (FanDuel, as of Aug. 5)
Team Odds Key Factor
Miami -145 Carson Beck plus a soft ACC schedule
SMU +750 Back-to-back CFP-caliber seasons under Rhett Lashlee
Louisville +750 Continuity and one of the league’s best offensive lines
Clemson +1500 Talent overhaul after a 4-4 conference collapse
Virginia +1800 Reigning conference runner-up after a 7-1 league mark
Pittsburgh +1900 Defense-first identity, tougher path through the middle tier

Notice how tightly bunched SMU and Louisville are behind Miami — both at +750 on FanDuel, both viewed by handicappers as basically a 1A/1B situation for the No. 2 spot. Virginia’s inclusion this high is the one real market surprise; the Cavaliers went 7-1 in ACC play a year ago, which is a better conference record than SMU, Louisville, or Clemson posted, yet they’re still priced as clear outsiders behind all three.

Carson Beck and the Case for the Favorite

Miami’s price is built on more than name recognition. Beck, the former Georgia transfer, returns for a second season under center after leading an offense that got the Hurricanes to within a game of the national championship picture a year ago. Around him, Miami kept most of its receiving corps intact and added Duke castoff Darian Mensah as quarterback insurance — a level of QB depth almost nobody else in the league can match.

Six of Miami’s nine ACC opponents were predicted to finish 10th or worse in the conference’s preseason media poll.

That schedule quirk matters more than it sounds. A team can be the best in its conference and still get tripped up by one bad Saturday in a true home-and-home round-robin. Miami’s ACC slate is about as light as a favorite could hope for, which is exactly why sharp bettors are more focused on the number than the name at the top of the board.

It’s not a lock, though. Miami’s toughest ACC test comes on the road at Clemson, a spot where key rating systems still favor the Hurricanes but by a manageable margin — meaning one letdown performance in Death Valley could open the door for the entire chase pack.

The Best Bet

Miami’s price is short enough that the smarter play for value hunters is downstream, but the safest single-team position remains the favorite given the schedule and the quarterback gap over the rest of the conference.

  1. Pick: Miami -145
  2. Value alternative: SMU +750

SMU has been to the CFP in each of the past two years and returns enough of Rhett Lashlee’s infrastructure to make a four-times-the-price bet on the Mustangs the more interesting swing if you’re looking to beat, rather than back, the chalk. For bettors who want more markets to shop before committing, the NCAAF Champion board and a look at futures betting strategy are both worth a check before locking in a number.
