Will Kalen DeBoer get Alabama back to the College Football Playoff in 2025? Will LSU get back in the mix after a disappointing season a year ago? We’ll answer these questions and more in our 2025 SEC Football preview, which includes 4 season win total bets. Good luck this year!
Alabama Crimson Tide UNDER 9.5 Wins
No playoff appearance last year, despite its expansion to 12 teams, was certainly seen as a disappointment to many in Tuscaloosa. However, 2nd-year coach Kalen DeBoer will be bringing back a strong roster this season. He also added his former play caller from Washington, Ryan Grubb. Many expect his addition will bolster the Tide back into the playoff this season.
However, they still need to decide on a QB. Ty Simpson, Austin Mack, and Keelon Russell are all battling for the spot, but it is likely that Simpson will be the starter in the opener. Whoever is the man under center he will have one of the best receiving corps in the country, led by Ryan Williams.
The defense should be the strong part of the Tide this year, and after a bumpy start to the season last year, they were able to get through the growing pains and held teams to under 17.5ppg. The secondary is loaded with future NFL talent and should be the anchor of the defense this season.
LSU Tigers UNDER 8.5 Wins
The seat is getting hot for Brian Kelly in Baton Rouge. He has not been able to lead the Tigers into the playoff yet and finished a sorry 5-3 in SEC play last season. That play left the Tigers on the outside looking at not only the playoff but also the Top 25. He hopes that Garrett Nussmeier and company will be able to lead him and the Tigers to the promised land and keep his job secure.
After many expected Nussmeier to bolt for the NFL, he decided to stay and has a chance to do something special this season. He will have arguably the most underrated group of receivers in the conference. Nic and Aaron Anderson will team up with Chris Hilton and Barion Brown to give secondaries fits.
However, they have four question marks on the offensive line, which could be an issue for the talented offense to get going early in the year. The defense stepped as the season went on last season, and they have a good group of returning starters that have many Tiger fans confident that this will be their season.
Auburn Tigers OVER 7.5 Wins
Much like Brian Kelly, coach Hugh Freeze could be on borrowed time in Auburn. The talent has been there, but the fundamentals have not. The 22 turnovers they allowed last year were careless and put themselves in nearly impossible positions to win meaningful games. If they are able to turn that around, the future could be bright for these Tigers.
Freeze brought in Georgia Tech transfer, Eric Singleton to be paired up with Cam Coleman to give Jackson Arnold some reliable weapons. Arnold transferred in from Oklahoma State and will get the reigns behind one of the best offensive lines in the conference. While the turnovers put the blame on the offense, it also showed just how underrated their defense played.
They were able to hold SEC teams under 25ppg under DJ Durkin and should only improve this season. If they can play even better without the short fields due to turnovers and Arnold is finally able to break out, Auburn could be one of the most dangerous teams in the SEC.
Tennessee Volunteers UNDER 8.5 Wins
The big storyline in Tennessee over the offseason was the Nico Iamaleava fiasco. With coach Heupel eventually cutting ties with him, the Vols are now looking to the future with UCLA transfer Joey Aguilar. He will need to figure out things quick as his transfer came later than many.
Nico wasn’t the only loss on the offensive side, Dylan Sampson left for the NFL, after being one of the top RBs in the country last season. Peyton Lewis, Star Thomas, and DeSean Bishop will need to fill the large void that Sampson has left in the backfield.
The offensive line will be trying to replace 4 starters, and the receiving group is nothing to brag about. The defense was the stronger of the sides last season and will likely be the same this year. Not only will they need to be strong, but they will need to dominate in order to give Aguilar and the offense time to figure things out.
