2 College Football Best Bets for Championship Weekend: Can Leavitt Get it Done?

Conference Championships start tonight, and we get a nice slate tomorrow to keep us entertained. I have locked in 2 more bets for Saturday I really like!

With so much on the line in these games, you won’t want to miss these games this weekend! We made picks in the Big 12 and the ACC title matches, let’s cash these and have a great weekend!

Arizona St Better on Both Sides

Arizona State has a few key points that I believe give them the edge over Iowa St. Both teams are 4-2 against common opponents, and both teams are very closely matched in a lot of areas. I believe Arizona St has the better QB in this matchup in Leavitt, and their rushing attack should cause problems for the 96th-ranked rushing defense in Iowa St.

With Leavitt and Skattebo leading the offense, I don’t think the loss of WR Tyson will hold this offense back. Iowa St has been very good against the pass all season but struggles at what Arizona St does best, which is the ground game with Skattebo. We saw Neal and Kansas carve up this defense and we could see a repeat of that here.

Arizona State's defense is also solid against the pass and the rush, they are fairly good at limiting explosives, and I do believe they will do enough on this side of the ball creating havoc, putting pressure on the QB, and finding a turnover or two. I expect Arizona St to be very careful with the ball and they should find a way in this one.

SMU Train Keeps Rolling?

Scary pick here as who wants to go against a battle tested Clemson program? Well this isn’t the same Clemson team we are used to, and they have completely fallen off the last 5 weeks. They have scored less than 27.5 points in 4 of their last 5 games, 4 of which were conference games.

SMU on the other hand ranks 19th in the nation allowing just 19.8 points per game. In SMU’s 12 games, they only allowed Boston College to hit exactly 28 points, every other opponent was held under 27.5. I don’t foresee Clemson finding very many explosive plays in this game, which I believe is the only way they can put up 30+ points.

SMU is going to play keep away with the ball, try to control time of possession, and limit Clemson's offensive chances. SMU has a good shot to find the big win here and stay in the college football playoff. I don’t think this spot will be too big for them and their defense will make plays.
