Vanderbilt vs Texas: Odds, Predictions, and Best Bet for Wednesday, January 14

Vanderbilt vs Texas Odds, Predictions, and Best Bet

The Vanderbilt Commodores will head south to take on the Texas Longhorns in an SEC showdown on Wednesday, January 14. Both teams have superior offenses, and both love to play at a fast pace. Maybe that’s why oddsmakers have set this total on the high side.

How will this one play out? We’ll dive into which team has the edge in each statistical category. Get our predictions and best player prop below. Best of luck, sports betting family.

Opening Odds for Vanderbilt vs Texas

Oddsmakers are making Vandy a moderate favorite in this game, as the opening line actually priced the ‘Dores as a 7.5-point favorite on Tuesday afternoon. However, most sportsbooks were flooded with lots of early money on Texas. That’s why Vanderbilt is now only favored by 5.5 points at a few shops at the time of this writing.

The books are expecting a higher amount of scoring in this game. The opening total was 166, and now most shops have moved it to 166.5. That’s a truckload of points, but I sure wouldn’t want to bet on the Under with these two high-flying offenses.

Will the Commodores Stay Undefeated?

Don’t look now, but Vanderbilt is a perfect 16-0 this season and showing no signs of slowing down. The Commodores are coming off an impressive 11-point victory over LSU last Saturday. Tyler Tanner leads the team in points (17.3) and assists (5.4), and looks like one of the top point guards in the SEC.

Vandy didn’t crash the boards too well last season, but that’s no longer the case in 2026. The ‘Dores are getting some nice contributions on the glass from Devin McGlockton and Jalen Washington. Duke Miles has also chipped in with 17.2 points per game and 2.9 steals per contest.

The Black and Gold rank a solid 7th in shooting efficiency, so Texas had better bring its A-game on the defensive end here at home. The Horns will also have to shoot the ball better from three-point land if they want to have a shot at winning this one.

Can Texas Pull the Upset?

Texas is coming off a nice upset on the road against Alabama, a game in which they outrebounded the Crimson Tide 48-38. Do the Horns have a second straight upset in them? It’s possible, but it’s going to take another stellar performance from several players.

Dailyn Swain has been the Swiss Army knife of this Texas squad, as he leads the team in points, rebounds, and assists so far this season. However, the Horns are far from a one-man wrecking crew, as they have four players that average in double figures per game. Tramon Mark and Jordan Pope have complemented Swain quite nicely so far.

Texas looks pretty decent in some metrics, but their main strength is getting to the foul line. The Horns lead the country in free throw attempts and rank 2nd in free throws made. Look for them to be super-aggressive in cutting to the hoop in this one against a Top 10 team.

Vanderbilt 1st Half -3.5 (+100) (Fanatics) (1 Unit)

I know everyone is expecting the Commodores to lose at some point, but I just don’t see it happening in this spot. Sure, the Texas crowd will be quite rowdy, but Vandy head coach Mark Byington has his team playing at a very high level right now. The Horns will put up a fight, but they won’t have an answer for the ‘Dores swarming defense.

I’m taking Vandy in the first half instead of the full game here, mainly because the Commodores are of the best first-half teams in the nation. My first half power rating has Vanderbilt leading by 8 at the break, even though it’s a road game. These two teams have performed about even in 2nd halves so far this year.

Give me the Commodores to take care of business in the first stanza on Hump Day. Good luck, fellow sports bettors!
