The NCAA Tournament offers bettors some excellent opportunities to make some cold, hard cash. One game individuals shouldn’t sleep on is in the Midwest Region as the No. 9-seeded Saint Louis Billikens (28-5) take on the No. 8-seed Georgia Bulldogs (22-10).
Saint Louis is in the tournament for the first time since 2019. The Billikens lost a heartbreaker in the Atlantic 10 semifinals, dropping 70-69 to Dayton on the Flyers’ last-second layup. Their inclusion into the NCAA’s was expected because of the deep A-10 pool of candidates.
The Bulldogs’ inclusion was expected, too. Georgia lost in the SEC tournament to a red-hot underdog in Ole Miss. Still, the SEC school won over Arkansas, Kentucky, and Alabama to seal their spot in the tourney.
Will Saint Louis or Georgia win this 8-vs-9 matchup? We’ll cover that and provide bettors with our top three player props for this NCAA Tournament game.
Georgia Bulldogs’ Kanon Catchings UNDER 14.5 Points
Kanon Catchings caught fire toward the end of the season. The sophomore forward is averaging just 12.0 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game. But in his final three regular season and SEC tournament contests, the 6-foot-9 athlete led his team in scoring each time.
After scoring 74 points over the final three contests, bettors would naturally assume he’ll easily cover his scoring prop line. That isn’t the case, however. Saint Louis struggles against talented guards. Expect Georgia to work their backcourt for scoring opportunities as Catchings fails to cover this prop line.
Saint Louis Billikens’ Robbie Avila OVER 18.5 Pts + Reb
Senior Robbie Avila is an unassuming presence despite his 6-foot-10, 240-pound frame. The center is averaging 12.9 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per outing for the Billikens, and he’s among the team’s leaders in all three categories.
Saint Louis leaned on him during the A-10 tournament. He recorded at least 23 combined points and rebounds in his team’s two conference tourney contests. Expect a similar result against the undersized Bulldog lineup. Take him to cover this combination prop wager.
Georgia Bulldogs’ Blue Cain To Record 2+ 3-PT Field Goals (+126)
Junior Blue Cain is no stranger to the NCAA Tournament. He’s one of a handful of returning Bulldog players who participated in last year’s opening round exit. This season, the 6-foot-5 guard is averaging 13.3 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 2.7 assists to lead Georgia back into the big dance.
Cain is not known for his three-point shooting capabilities, but bettors shouldn’t sleep on this two-year starter. He hit at least two trifectas in 16 games this season, including a 3-for-3 night against Mississippi State just before the SEC Tournament tipped off. Take him to make at least two triples on Thursday, covering this player prop line.
Best Bet: Georgia (-2.5)
Both teams are looking to snap long NCAA tournament skids. The Billikens reached the Sweet 16 in 2013, marking the last time Saint Louis won a game in the big dance. Georgia’s drought dates back to 2002 on the court and 1996 in the record books.
Successful Cinderellas in the NCAA tourney often have a senior-laden lineup. That’s not the case with Saint Louis as only two of their starters are seniors. This bodes well for the Billikens’ future. But in a battle among two teams that have underclassmen starting throughout the lineup, take the talented Bulldogs to cover the 2.5-point spread on Thursday.
