Friday College Basketball Best Bets for February 28

In Big 10 play, take UCLA and Mick Cronin to shut down Purdue’s offense and cover their spread, which sits at +5.5. They haven’t lost a game by more than 5 points this month and have won 9 of their last 11.

Elsewhere, Chris Collins’ Northwestern team is as usual, heating up to end the season. They take on an Iowa team searching for answers after losing two of their last four games by 20+ points.

UCLA +6 over Purdue

Mick Cronin and the Bruins have had a rollercoaster ride of a season. A verbal call-out by Cronin after an away losing skid turned into an incredible February for UCLA, who now sit 4th in the Big 10 at 20-8 overall with a chance at a 6 or 7 seed in the tournament.

With wins over Michigan State, Oregon, USC, and Wisconsin over their last 10, I don’t think this Purdue squad phases them away from home and after a tough victory against Ohio State where UCLA got hot from beyond the arc, I’m taking Cronin’s squad to cover tonight.

Northwestern -4.5 over Iowa

Chris Collins doesn’t go down without a fight. The Wildcats are coming off two wins at Ohio State and at Minnesota by a combined 33 points. NU saw 29 points from Nick Martinelli in Minneapolis where the Wildcats held the Gophers to just 63 points and forced 13 turnovers to just 15 allowed assists.

Minnesota couldn't find their rhythm from beyond the arc and dropped two in a row at home, ending their chances at a tournament bid indefinitely. Take Collins’ underrated squad to topple the Gophers for their third straight win and get back into the home win column in Evanston.

Nevada -2.5 over UNLV

Steve Alford has his Wolfpack rolling, winning five of their last seven in conference play, including three games by 15+ points. Nevada has won three straight games against their rivals UNLV, while the Rebels have gone just 9-8 in conference play and just 10-6 at home.

UNLV shoots it just 44.6% from the field while Nevada sits at 48.6% which is top 30 in the country. The offensive woes for the Runnin’ Rebels will be their demise tonight as they have scored 52, 53, and 77 points over their last three games.

Nick Davidson and Kobe Sanders alongside some pesky Nevada guards should get the job done in Thomas & Mack once again for the second straight year.
