We are heading back to UFC Apex for what should be a fun Fight Night with some solid contenders in the mix. You won’t find any big names on this card, but there should be some very fun fights in what the UFC sees as their upcoming generation.
Today, I will break down my 3 favorite bets for this weekend’s fight card. Let’s get into it!
Donte Johnson (6-0) vs Sedriques Dumas (10-3)
Donte Johnson is making his UFC debut after winning his fight on the Contender Series by TKO in the first round. He will also be making his Middleweight debut, dropping from Heavyweight, which should certainly be something to monitor. Johnson is very impressive and could be a dangerous prospect, but Dumas should be a solid test for him. Dumas is not very well-rounded and really is just tougher than a polished fighter.
I think Johnson is going to dominate here, but not nearly as quickly as Vegas thinks. He is the better fighter wherever this fight goes, but I think the weight cut and this being his first UFC fight are going to play a factor in slowing him down a little bit. Also, I think Dumas is a pretty tough dude who can at least survive for a little while after what has been a wild year for him.
MY PICK: Over 1.5 Rounds +170
Jeremiah Wells (12-4-1) vs Themba Gorimbo (14-5)
Wells started his UFC career perfectly, sitting at 4-0, but since then, he has been on a two-fight skid. He is now 38 years old and is facing an uphill battle against Gorimbo. Gorimbo also started as an exciting prospect, but his 52-second loss to Vincente Luque via Anaconda Choke has killed some of his hype. Both of these guys are pretty well-rounded fighters with solid wrestling bases, so the matchup is fairly even in my eyes.
I think Gorimbo has an edge in this one, but only slightly. He is younger, and I truly believe his wrestling is better than Wells’. I also think he edges Wells in the striking category which, if he can dominate the positioning, will lead him to a win. I don’t see either of these guys flying out of the gate and fighting super aggressively, so I think Gorimbo can win a bit of a slow burner with both guys going for it in the 3rd round. Give me Themba for the win.
MY PICK: Themba Gorimbo -140
Steve Garcia (18-5) vs David Onama (14-2)
This will be a very fun fight between two rising contenders in the featherweight division. Fernando Garcia comes into this fight on a six-fight win streak, including a win over long-time contender Calvin Kattar. He is great with his hands and has tremendous power. Onama is also coming off the biggest win of his career with a great win over Giga Chikadze. He utilized his wrestling and Fight IQ to win that one against another dangerous striker.
This fight is going to come down to Onama’s ability to defend Garcia’s power. We have seen Onama take down a dangerous striker in Giga Chikadze, but he will need to utilize his wrestling for a chance to win here. Garcia is going to apply a ton of pressure on the feet and he has the power to take you out if you make a single mistake. I think this fight will be pretty close though with both guys being able to work in this one. I think we see this fight goa deeper than many people are thinking. I’m taking over 2.5 Rounds
MY PICK: Over 2.5 Rounds +150
