Prediction Markets Favor Colts Over Commanders in London as Jayden Daniels Injury Looms Large

Polymarket and sportsbooks are aligned on the Colts in the NFL’s London matchup, with Jayden Daniels out and Jonathan Taylor set to carry the load for Indianapolis.

The NFL is heading back across the pond, and this time the London crowd at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium gets a Sunday morning tailgate-turned-breakfast special: Colts vs. Commanders. Kickoff is set for 9:30 AM ET on October 4, with both teams flying in at 1-2 and fresh off their first wins of the season. It’s the kind of neutral-site, time-zone-scrambled matchup that makes prediction markets and sportsbooks alike a little more interesting than your average Week 4 tilt.

What the Markets Are Saying

Public betting markets have made their lean clear. On Polymarket, Colts backers have pushed Indianapolis to roughly 63.5% implied probability to win outright, compared to 36.5% for Washington, with the contract pulling in about $172,000 in 24-hour volume on its way to a total volume north of $263,000. That’s real money voting with real conviction, and it lines up neatly with where traditional sportsbooks have settled: Colts favored by 3.5 to 4 points, moneyline hovering around -190 to -200 for Indianapolis against +155 to +170 on Washington, and the total sitting near 47.5 to 48.

When a prediction market and the point spread tell the same story this cleanly, it’s usually because the inputs are obvious — and in this case, the biggest input has a name: Jayden Daniels.

The Daniels Absence Changes Everything

Washington’s star quarterback dislocated his left elbow and is out for this one, which is the single biggest reason the market has shifted so hard toward Indianapolis. Backup Marcus Mariota stepped in and actually won his start, beating a Seattle team that was no pushover, so this isn’t a situation where Washington is rolling out a total unknown. But replacing Daniels with Mariota is still a downgrade in ceiling, especially on a short week dealing with international travel.

The Commanders’ issues don’t stop at quarterback, either. Left tackle Laremy Tunsil is on IR, defensive tackle Jer’Zhan Newton is on IR, cornerback Trey Amos is out through at least Week 4, running back Jeremy McNichols is out, and edge rusher Deatrich Wise Jr. is also sidelined. That’s a lot of institutional knowledge missing from both lines of scrimmage. The saving grace is Terry McLaurin, who remains a legitimate target for Mariota to lean on regardless of who else is on the field.

Why Indianapolis Is the Betting Favorite

The Colts bring their own alarming injury note — tight end Will Mallory is on IR through Week 4 — but the engine of this offense is still running. Daniel Jones has playmakers around him, and Jonathan Taylor remains the focal point of a ground game that has models and oddsmakers both convinced. Taylor’s anytime-touchdown odds have been priced as short as -235, the shortest number on the board for this entire game, which tells you everything about how heavily the market expects Indianapolis to lean on him in a controlled, clock-eating approach suited to an early-morning kickoff in unfamiliar conditions.

Defensively, cornerback Sauce Gardner anchors a secondary that’s quietly turned a corner over the last two weeks — holding Houston to 17 points and pushing Kansas City to overtime. Pair that defensive uptick with a backup quarterback across the field, and it’s not hard to see why multiple models are aligned on this one. BetMGM’s model gives the Colts a 53.8% win confidence and 52.3% confidence to cover the spread. SportsGrid and FanDuel’s joint model projects a Colts win by 6 points with a 69% win probability, favoring both Indianapolis -3.5 and the Under 47.5. Pickswise has also backed the Colts to cover, pointing directly to Washington’s quarterback downgrade and a Colts defense trending in the right direction.

The London Wild Card

Neutral-site games always carry a bit of chaos the models can’t fully price in. Both teams will be dealing with the travel, the early body-clock kickoff, and the unusual atmosphere of playing a regular-season game at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium rather than in front of their own fans. That disruption theoretically affects both sides equally, but it has occasionally produced sloppier, lower-scoring football in past International Series games — which lines up with the Under lean several models are already pointing toward.

If you’re mapping out your NFL odds for the full Week 4 slate, this London matchup is worth keeping on the radar precisely because the consensus is so lopsided. When public markets, sportsbook lines, and multiple independent models all point in the same direction, it’s rarely a coincidence — but it does mean the value, if there is any, is more likely hiding in the margin or the total than in the straight moneyline pick.

Prediction and Best Bet

Every signal here — Polymarket’s 63.5/36.5 split, the sportsbook spread, and three separate statistical models — points to the same outcome: Indianapolis wins this one, likely by a touchdown or so, behind a heavy dose of Jonathan Taylor and a defense that’s been getting better by the week. Washington’s floor with Mariota and McLaurin keeps this from being a blowout on paper, but the gap in available talent on both lines is simply too wide to ignore.

  • Prediction: Colts 24, Commanders 17
  • Best Bet: Colts -3.5

With Jayden Daniels out, Washington’s offensive ceiling drops considerably, and Indianapolis has both the backfield workhorse and the defensive form to cover a number that’s still shy of a full touchdown. The betting markets got this one right early — and little has emerged since to change that read.
