Did anyone watch last night’s NHL action? It was certainly a great night to be a hockey fan. The Boston Bruins kept the series alive against the Florida Panthers, as they will now head back home down 3-2 in the series, hoping to put together three straight wins. The Edmonton Oilers played spoiler last night, evening the series 2-2 after a late-game collapse by the Vancouver Canucks.
With that in mind, we expect tonight’s action to provide the same level of entertainment, even though there’s only one game on the slate. Will the Dallas Stars find a way to put away the Colorado Avalanche? Or, will the Avs find a way to fight back and force a Game 6?
That remains to be seen. As we prepare for tonight’s game, let’s dive into our best bets from this game, also highlighting two of our favorite props from Underdog!
Saturday, October 12 at 8:00 PM | Spread | Money | Total |
New York Islanders | +1.5 (-190) | +150 | O 6.5 (102) |
Dallas Stars | -1.5 (138) | -165 | U 6 (-110) |
If you’re someone who’s looking for a plus-money play tonight, this isn’t going to be your cup of tea. We do expect the Stars to win this game, considering the momentum they’ve built up to this point, but we aren’t going to go out on a limb and say they’ll win by at least two goals.
The normal moneyline is just fine for us, as you can get it at -145 on ESPN Bet, the best line we were able to get. Look for the Stars to close this one out and move on to the Western Conference Finals.
We love this play for tonight’s game. The Stars are coming off a five-goal game, a contest where the Avs only put up one.
We like both teams’ odds of scoring at least three goals in this one, and the good news for us, is that there are no ties in hockey. With our prediction in mind, we’re riding the over on the goal total of 6.5, hoping to see a scoring barrage!
Jake Oettinger is a fantastic goalie, and we’re certainly not trying to take anything away from him with this pick. This pick is more about the Avs than it is about Oettinger, as they haven’t been taking many shots.
Oettinger has only had 28 saves in two games this series, with the other two games having 22 and 24. He might get close to the 28 mark tonight, but, ultimately, we’re taking the under here.
Maybe we’re crazy, but this line seems too high for MacKinnon, who has yet to take 5+ shots in a game this series. The Stars have kept him out of this series as much as possible, which has resulted in their 3-1 series lead to this point.
Look for MacKinnon to be stymied again tonight, achieving less than 5 shots. Even though it's scary, let's ride the Under!
