3 NHL Shots on Goal Props to Back on October 28: MacKinnon, Draisaitl and Sharangovich

MacKinnon, Draisaitl and Sharangovich headline our three best shots on goal props for Wednesday night’s NHL slate, with lines and the why behind each pick.

Wednesday’s NHL board is stacked, with Philadelphia at Washington at 7:30 p.m. ET, Calgary at Edmonton at 8:30, New Jersey at Colorado at 9:00 and Toronto at Seattle at 10:00. That is a lot of hockey, and a lot of shots on goal to sort through. Instead of staring at every line on the menu, we picked the three that stood out most.

Two of them are about stars who simply fire the puck at a ridiculous rate, and one is a classic fade of a winger whose shot volume has quietly dried up. Whenever you shop for a number, remember that odds can shift by book, so a little odds shopping goes a long way.

Nathan MacKinnon Over 2.5 Shots on Goal: The Easiest Bet in Denver

Nathan MacKinnon is putting up 21 points on 7 goals and 14 assists through 12 games, and the engine behind it is volume. He has fired 50 shots on goal in those 12 games, a little over four per night, which sits well above this 2.5 line. Think about that: he can go a full period without a shot and still have time to clear the number.

The matchup helps too. Colorado is the home favorite at roughly -170 on the moneyline against a New Jersey team that sits at 8-4, with a total of 6.5 on the board. A favorite at home that controls the puck is exactly where a high-volume shooter feasts. Our projection model has MacKinnon at 3.77 shots on goal tonight, with a 70.3 percent chance of clearing 2.5. Check your book for the exact price, because the juice on a number this low can vary.

Leon Draisaitl Over 3.5 Shots on Goal: Plus Money on a Shooter

This is the one that makes the board fun. Draisaitl has 12 goals and 24 points through 12 games, and his shot line has been posted at 3.5 at DraftKings, FanDuel and BetMGM. We found the over at about +102 at FanDuel, which means you are getting plus money on a guy who sees plenty of power play time.

Over his last three games Draisaitl has put 14 shots on goal, good for 4.67 per game, while scoring four goals and adding four assists. His projection for tonight is 3.24 shots with about 4:07 of power play ice time, and a favorable 5v5 matchup against Calgary. The Flames come in at 5-6, sixth in the Pacific, while Edmonton is 8-2-1-1 and a heavy home favorite near -210. A big lead creates plenty of offensive zone time, and Draisaitl is the one who takes advantage. The model projection sits a bit under the line, so this is a play on his recent form and the price, not a lock. Shop around before you click.

Yegor Sharangovich Under 1.5 Shots on Goal: Fading the Quiet Winger

Every board needs a contrarian pick, and this one is ours. Yegor Sharangovich has managed just two shots on goal over his last three games, and he has had one or zero shots in five of his last six. He did fire six shots in a win on Oct. 18, but that now looks like the outlier rather than the rule.

The under sits at -120 at DraftKings. Calgary heads to Edmonton as a big underdog at roughly +180, and trailing teams tend to spend more time defending than shooting. With Edmonton controlling the pace at home, there is a real chance Sharangovich barely touches the puck in the offensive zone. We like the under on the number, though as always, check your book for the current price.
