3 NHL Best-of-the-Board Props to Back on October 15

Jack Hughes and Auston Matthews to fire away on shots on goal, plus Jack Eichel to stay hot against the Flames. Our three best NHL props for Thursday’s 11-game slate.

Thursday night’s NHL board is a full eleven-game buffet, and three of the best-looking dishes are a Hudson River grudge match, a Scotiabank Arena shot-fest and a late-night Vegas house party. Grab a plate: we’re mixing two shots-on-goal props and one points prop into a tidy trio.

The common thread is volume and matchup. Two of the league’s most trigger-happy centers get their numbers against shaky goaltending, while the league’s most reliable playmaker gets a Flames team that has barely won a game. Let’s get into it.

Jack Hughes Over 3.5 Shots on Goal Against the Rangers

Hughes has fired 25 shots on goal through six games, which works out to 4.2 per night, and the number at most books sits at 3.5. He has been steady with it too: in the 20-game sample we tracked, he cleared two shots every single time and got to three or more in 80 percent of them. This is a player who treats the offensive zone like his personal driving range.

The timing is good. Hughes scored the overtime winner in Tuesday’s 5-4 win in Detroit, so the confidence is high, and he skates on the top line next to Jesper Bratt. Meanwhile the Rangers are staring at a goalie crisis, with Igor Shesterkin on injured reserve after a reported season-ending knee injury and Joonas Korpisalo out at least four more weeks, which leaves Dylan Garand as the projected starter. A thin crease invites shooters to keep pulling the trigger.

The over is priced between roughly -113 and -130 depending on the book, so shop the number before you bet. Puck drop at Prudential Center is 7:00 PM ET.

Auston Matthews Over 3.5 Shots on Goal Against the Sabres

Matthews leads Toronto with 25 shots on goal in seven games, a 3.6 average that sits right on the line, and he has been scoring too, with five goals and seven assists for 12 points. He carries a five-game point streak into this one, and his shooting volume has been steady enough that the over is worth a look at plus money where you can find it. DraftKings has had it at +110, while other books are closer to -106.

Buffalo does not offer much help on the other end. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen carries a .850 save percentage and a 3.46 goals-against average into the game, numbers that suggest Sabres goalies are seeing lots of pucks and stopping too few. When a goalie is shaky, a shooter like Matthews has every reason to keep firing, and he logs nearly 22 minutes a night.

Toronto is the home favorite at around -119 for the 7:00 PM ET start, which points to a competitive game that keeps Matthews on the ice. If plus-money shot props are new to you, it helps to understand how betting odds work, because a fair price on a coin-flip prop is the whole idea.

Jack Eichel Over 0.5 Points Against the Flames

Every card needs a safe pick, and Eichel is ours. He leads Vegas with 13 points in eight games, four goals and nine assists, and he plays just under 21 minutes a night. The books have hung prices in the -280 to -330 range on his points prop in recent games, which tells you how often he cashes.

The matchup is a gift. Calgary has started the season with one win at most, and the goaltending has been rough, with Dustin Wolf at a .839 save percentage and 4.56 goals-against average and Devin Cooley at .818 and 5.01. Vegas is a heavy favorite around -300, and when the Golden Knights score, Eichel is usually attached to the goal. Edgehalla flags this as the softest five-on-five matchup on the slate, and he has averaged 1.5 points a game over his last ten.

The price is steep at roughly -300, so this is a pick for anchoring a slip, not for chasing a big payout. Puck drop in Las Vegas is 10:00 PM ET, which makes it the perfect nightcap.

Lock These In
