Sunday’s NHL slate is a five-game buffet, and the prop board is where the fun lives. We skipped the obvious stuff and went hunting for the best of the board: two shots on goal overs with real model support and one goalie saves play that could turn into a very busy night in Dallas.
Here is the menu: a Canucks center who is quietly firing pucks again, a Stars winger who has been on an absolute heater, and an Islanders goalie with a sparkling save percentage who is about to face one of the league’s better teams at home. Let’s eat.
Filip Chytil OVER 1.5 Shots on Goal (-150)
Filip Chytil only got back on the ice for Vancouver after being activated from injured reserve on October 15, following a shoulder injury suffered in the preseason, so his box score looks thin: no goals, two assists and five shots to start the season. Don’t let the point total fool you. He is averaging 19:34 of ice time a night, which is plenty of runway for a center who is being used in a real role.
The model is high on this one. Dimers puts the probability of Chytil clearing 1.5 shots at 73.2%, a 13.2% edge at -150 odds. He has also been winning draws, posting a 63.6% faceoff mark in Vancouver’s 5-2 loss to Detroit, which tells you he is in the middle of the puck all night. The Wild visit Rogers Arena for the 10:00 PM ET puck drop in the first of three meetings between these clubs, and home ice is a friendly setup for a center who just needs two looks to cash.
Fair warning: the juice is heavy at -150 and his shot totals have been modest, so this is a probability play, not a fireworks play. If you want to compare prices across books, a quick trip through the Player Prop Search tool will show you where the best number is hiding.
Jason Robertson OVER 2.5 Shots on Goal (-160)
Jason Robertson is the human version of a heat lamp right now. He has rattled off three straight multi-point games, including two assists and four shots on goal in Thursday’s 3-2 overtime win over Winnipeg. Through 10 games he has three goals, eight assists and 33 shots on net, good for 3.3 per game with over 20 minutes of ice time a night.
Look at his recent shot log and the over has real legs: four against the Jets, three against Boston, seven in the 4-0 win in Chicago, three in Colorado, and three in Pittsburgh. That is a player who sits right on the number and regularly clears it. Dimers has the over at a 64.9% probability with a 3.3% edge at -160, and Dallas enters as a heavy favorite, roughly -200 on the moneyline, with the total sitting at 5.5. When the Stars are the team pushing play at home, Robertson’s shot volume tends to follow.
The price is steep, and he has had a few two-shot nights this month, so shop around before you click. If you are new to the whole concept, our guide to betting odds explains why a -160 line needs to hit about 62% of the time just to break even.
Ilya Sorokin Saves Prop at Dallas
Here is the one with a little spice. Ilya Sorokin is the projected starter for the Islanders at 6:00 PM ET, though at the time of writing the starting goalie report still lists him as unconfirmed, so check for the official word before you bet. He is 5-2 in seven starts with a .934 save percentage and a 1.72 goals-against average, and his career numbers against Dallas are excellent at a .936 save percentage.
The angle is volume. The Islanders are a decided underdog at roughly +165, which usually means more pucks heading toward the crease, and Dallas sits near the top of its division at 6-3-1. Sorokin’s recent saves results show a goalie whose workload swings wildly: 15 saves against Anaheim, 28 in Toronto, 24 against Vancouver and 37 in a heavy night against New Jersey. A team that is likely to be chasing the game gives the saves over a better shot than the raw averages suggest.
We could not verify a posted saves number for this game at publish time, so check your book for the current line and shop it. If you are using a sportsbook offer to back it, the DraftKings promo code page walks through the current welcome bonus.
