Week 5 of the NFL Season is officially here. While NFL fans might be excited for another week of football to occur, the Thursday Night Football matchup hasn’t exactly been met with fanfare.
This week’s iteration of TNF is between the Chicago Bears and Washington Commanders, who have a combined record of 2-6. Not exactly the high-flying matchup fans are looking forward to, especially since it is the only game of the night.
However, while the fan response hasn’t been positive regarding this matchup, we are excited! Another TNF game is another opportunity for us to cook up some winning player props.
We have highlighted our top three plays from Underdog, giving us something to root for in an otherwise uninspiring matchup. With that being said, let’s get started!
Sam Howell has put together a surprising season for the Washington Commanders. Despite people doubting him throughout the offseason, Howell has demonstrated that he has what it takes to lead this team, keeping them in games every week.
Howell has rushed for 13 or more yards in three of four games this season. He has used his legs when necessary, showcasing his ability to get it done on the ground to complement his passing game.
We’re expecting Howell to take off on the run a few times throughout this contest, especially considering how shaky the Bears’ defense has been this season. They’ve allowed opposing QBs to rush for 13 yards or more in three games as well this season, a perfect storm for Howell to hit this over.
Interceptions can be a fluky stat. We recognize that and would understand if you don’t follow us on this one. However, Justin Fields has shown a propensity to panic under pressure, throwing four interceptions in his last three games.
While the Commanders’ defense isn’t one of the league’s top-five units, they will still bring pressure to Fields and the Bears’ offensive line. With that in mind, we believe Fields will throw at least one pick in this game.
It’s a primetime contest, and with the Bears being 0-4, Fields will feel even more pressure to succeed, getting that first win under his belt.
Who had a Cole Kmet breakout game on their Week 4 bingo card? We didn’t, that’s for sure. Kmet popped last week, catching seven passes for 85 yards and two touchdowns.
This demonstrated that, while Fields might struggle at times, he still looks for a safety blanket option. Kmet can be that for Fields throughout the year, and we’re expecting more of the same during this game.
Look for Fields to call his name throughout the game, resulting in at least 32 receiving yards for Kmet.
