It is Halloween night, and we get a scary Thursday Night Football matchup. The 2-6 New York Jets are falling off a cliff while the 6-2 Houston Texans are dealing with injuries that have decimated their receiving corp. The Texans will be without both Nico Collins and Stefon Diggs, leaving Tank Dell as the long starter remaining from their opening week.
Despite losing Stefon Diggs for the year, they did pick up a 23-20 win over the Indianapolis Colts last week. In the win, the Texans did give up over 160 yards on the ground but forced 2 turnovers and held the Colts to 2/13 on 3rd down. That, combined with strong QB play from CJ Stroud and a 100-yard performance on the ground by Joe Mixon, led to the win.
The Jets have already fired head coach Robert Saleh and brought in Aaron Rodgers’s old buddy, Davante Adams, yet the results have not changed. The Jets are free-falling and there seems to be no end in sight. They are 25th in the league in total yards per game and nearly last in rushing yards per game.
Breece Hall is one of the most talented young running backs in the league, there is no excuse for this offense to be performing as poorly as they are. The Jets lost their 5th game in a row last weekend. The 25-22 loss to division rival New England has many Jet fans scratching their heads.
The yardage numbers on offense looked better but the 40% conversion rate on 3rd down was not optimal. Leading by 5 points late in the game, the defense could not stop the Pats and gave up a touchdown run by Stevenson with just 25 seconds remaining.
If healthy, this Texans team should be able to light up the Jets and pick up the road victory easily. However, with their top 2 wideouts being out for this one, things may not be that easy.
That said, we still like the Texans to get the job done on the road by relying heavily on Joe Mixon and their run game. He has proven that he is one of the best backs in the league this year and will be ready for the heavier workload.
