Sunday Night Football rolls into Mercedes-Benz Stadium with a matchup that looked a lot different a week ago. The Baltimore Ravens (3-1) head to Atlanta to face a Falcons team (2-2) that has turned into one of the most entertaining stories in football, and the absence of a former MVP has suddenly made this game must-watch for reasons nobody expected back in September. Kickoff is 8:20 PM ET on NBC and Peacock, and there’s a little bit of everything here: a backup quarterback nicknamed “Snoop,” a red-hot Falcons offense, and a building that’s about to be loud all night.

The Line Moved Fast, and Here’s Why

Atlanta opened as a slight home favorite, but the number jumped once it became clear Ravens star quarterback Lamar Jackson would not play. Jackson sprained his ankle late in Baltimore’s Week 4 win over the Titans, and head coach Jesse Minter ruled him out on Friday, confirming Tyler Huntley would start under center. That news pushed the Falcons up to around -3.5 at most books, with the total sitting at 43.5.

Bettors have clearly noticed the shift in firepower. The Falcons’ moneyline sits in the -172 to -180 range depending on the sportsbook, while the Ravens check in anywhere from +144 to +150. It’s a notable swing for a team that was a road favorite earlier in the week, and it tells you just how much value the market places on having your franchise quarterback on the field. If you’re new to reading lines like these, it’s worth brushing up on how betting odds work before placing anything on this one.

Snoop Huntley Steps Into the Spotlight

Tyler Huntley, affectionately known as “Snoop,” gets the start in what will be the 17th regular-season start of his career and his 12th in relief of Jackson. He’s gone 5-7 in those spot starts, and the numbers around him tell a stark story: since Jackson took over as Baltimore’s starter back in 2019, the Ravens are an outstanding 82-37 (68.9%) and average 27.8 points per game. Without him, they’ve gone just 10-17 (37.0%), averaging 19.6 points. Baltimore also ruled out defensive end Trey Hendrickson (finger) for Sunday, adding another wrinkle to an already shorthanded roster heading into prime time.

On the other side, Atlanta is riding a wave that nobody saw coming after an 0-2 start. Quarterback Michael Penix Jr. took over for Cooper Rush in Week 3 and has been nothing short of electric, completing 73.3% of his passes for 479 yards, 2 touchdowns, and just 1 interception over his two starts, good for a 113.1 passer rating. He’s averaging 10.6 yards per attempt and has been sacked just once across those two games, operating behind the lowest pressure rate allowed in the NFL at 19%.

The Falcons have scored 80 combined points and surrendered only a single turnover during back-to-back wins, a 35-14 road rout at Green Bay on Thursday Night Football and a 45-24 statement win at New Orleans on Monday night. Running back Bijan Robinson piled up 145 yards and 2 touchdowns against the Saints, and he and Brian Robinson Jr. have combined for 8 rushing touchdowns through four games. Add in Drake London and Kyle Pitts as receiving options, and first-year head coach Kevin Stefanski has this offense humming at exactly the right time, with Atlanta now winners of two straight to climb back to .500.

Keep an eye on the Falcons’ injury report too. Pass rusher Za’Darius Smith is questionable with a concussion and neck issue, and left tackle Jake Matthews is dealing with a groin injury, though both practiced in some capacity during the week.

A Rivalry With Some History

These franchises don’t meet often, but when they do, it tends to be a dogfight. Baltimore leads the all-time series 5-2, including a 2-2 mark in games played in Atlanta. The most recent meeting came on Christmas Eve in 2022, when the Ravens escaped with a 17-9 win in Baltimore. There’s no deep postseason history or divisional grudge here, but a loud Mercedes-Benz Stadium crowd combined with a national primetime stage should be plenty of motivation for a Falcons team looking to prove its last two performances were no fluke.

Why You Should Actually Watch This One

This has all the makings of appointment television. You’ve got a feel-good backup quarterback story in Huntley trying to keep Baltimore’s season on track, a Falcons offense that looks completely unrecognizable from the one that started 0-2, and a dome environment that amplifies every big play. Add in Bijan Robinson looking like one of the most dangerous backs in football right now, and a Ravens defense that still has plenty of talent even with Hendrickson sidelined, and there’s a genuine chance this game swings on a handful of explosive plays rather than a slow grind.

Prediction and Best Bet

Atlanta’s offensive rhythm, home crowd, and health advantage at the game’s most important position make the Falcons the right side here. Huntley is a capable game manager, but asking him to out-duel a surging Penix Jr.-led attack on the road in primetime is a tough task. Expect Atlanta to lean on its running game and control the clock while its defense forces Baltimore into uncomfortable situations through the air.

  • Prediction: Atlanta Falcons 27, Baltimore Ravens 20
  • Best Bet: Falcons on the spread

With Jackson sidelined and Atlanta playing its most complete football of the season, the Falcons covering at home feels like the most sensible way to approach this Sunday Night Football matchup. Shopping around a few sportsbook promo codes beforehand never hurts, either.
