The Packers and Eagles will begin their seasons away from home on Friday. For the 1st time, an NFL game will take place in Brazil. While there have been plenty of stories about players stating that it is not something they are looking forward to, the crime rate in the area is so heightened that players have been instructed to stay in their hotels when not at the facility.
The Packers will have one of the top young gunslingers back at the helm this season. Jordan Love exceeded expectations last season and now has a new toy in his backfield with Josh Jacobs, who came over from Las Vegas.
They lost Aaron Jones to rival Minnesota and AJ Dillon landed on the IL during training camp, which means that Jacobs will need to be the bell cow to start the season. On defense, the Packers added new D Coordinator Jeff Hafley from Boston College. He should bring a more aggressive approach which they hope will elevate their mediocre defense from last season.
The Eagles have a couple of new faces on their offense. Most notably, former NYG back, Saquon Barkley. Viewed by many as the biggest free agent signing since Terrell Owens for the Eagles, he will have extremely high expectations to live up to.
A smaller yet impactful late addition was that of Jahan Dotson who came over via trade from Washington. He will join AJ Brown and Devonta Smith in what could be the best receiving group in the league.
On defense, the Eagles added CJ Garnder-Johnson back and drafted highly touted Cooper DeJean in the draft. They along with Quinyon Marshall are expected to help a defense that was woeful against the pass last season.
Sunday, October 13 at 1:01 PM | Spread | Money | Total |
Cleveland Browns | +7 (-112) | +290 | O 44 (-108) |
Philadelphia Eagles | -7 (-110) | -298 | U 43.5 (-115) |
We are tempted to play the over here as both offenses are strong on paper, however the defenses are typically ahead of offenses in the openers.
We love what this Eagle team looks like on paper but the regression that the entire franchise went through in the 2nd half of the season last year is worrisome. We believe the Packers will cover this number and could very well win this one outright.
