The Sunday night primetime matchup features the Detroit Lions (7-1) heading south to play the Houston Texans (6-3) in a battle of divisional leaders.
Detroit has won six straight games, including four contests on the road. This will be the Lions' fifth road contest in seven games, and Detroit has earned convincing victories in four of these six games.
Houston jumped out a 5-1 start before dropping two of their past three games. The Texans have dropped close decisions to the New York Jets and Green Bay Packers while only picking up a closer-than-expect win over Indianapolis two weeks ago.
Will the Lions maul the Texans to keep their streak alive, or can Houston outlast Detroit? We’ll cover that and our three favorite player prop bets from this primetime Sunday contest.
Texans’ second-year quarterback C.J. Stroud has struggled at times during his sophomore campaign. The 23-year-old athlete has completed 63.5 percent of his passes for 2,139 yards and 11 touchdowns against four interceptions.
Three of his past four outings have been below his standard as he’s finished above 200 yards in these affairs. Expect him to right the ship on Sunday night during this primetime matchup, finishing with at least 231 yards through the air.
Player | Prop | Price |
---|---|---|
Amon-Ra St. Brown | Over 69.5 Reception Yards | |
Amon-Ra St. Brown | Under 72.5 Reception Yards |
The Lions have one of the most reliable receivers in the league in Amon-Ra St. Brown. The 25-year-old receiver is in his fourth season, and this year’s statistics have been below his 119-catch, 1,515-yard finish in 2023.
St. Brown has just three of his team’s eight games surpassing the 65.5-yard mark after sitting out much of his team’s 52-14 blowout win over Tennessee. Last week, he recorded only 56 yards against Green Bay on seven catches, bringing his average per catch below the 10-yard mark this season for the first time in his career.
The Texans are fresh off surrendering 90 or more yards to two Jets receivers as both Davante Adams and Garrett Wilson eclipsed this mark. That bodes well for St. Brown to snap out of his offensive funk and finish the game with at least 66 yards on Sunday to cover this prop bet.
The Texans sought a strong running back to complement their young quarterback, adding Joe Mixon this offseason. Thus far, the 6-foot-1 athlete has held up his end of the deal, finishing with over 100 rushing yards in four straight games.
Mixon should be in for a fifth against the Lions. Detroit has allowed a runner to finish with more than 90 yards in back-to-back contests, giving bettors confidence that Mixon will cover this player prop bet.
Sunday, December 15 at 1:01 PM | Spread | Money | Total |
Miami Dolphins | +2.5 (-114) | +118 | O 46.5 (-109) |
Houston Texans | -2.5 (-110) | -130 | U 46.5 (-112) |
The Texans have been in every contest, and Houston had multiple chances to put away their game against the New York Jets. Returning home will work wonders for the Texans as they’ve won every game in Texas this year.
Detroit’s lone loss came at home, and the Lions are 4-0 on the road thus far. One of these two streaks will come to an end, but either way, it’s easy to expect this to be a back-and-forth game that is decided by a field goal or less.
