A Thanksgiving Day tradition will feature an untraditional contest this week when a pair of NFC East rivals face off.
The Dallas Cowboys (4-7) were expecting to make a playoff run, but a season-ending injury to quarterback Dak Prescott changed that outlook. Now, the Cowboys – who posted a surprise win in Washington this week – are attempting to salvage their season with Cooper Rush helming the offense.
Their opponent is the New York Giants (2-9), a team that will also feature a different starting quarterback than their previous game. The Giants are doing so by choice, however, after releasing signal-caller Daniel Jones last week in favor of second-year quarterback Tommy DeVito and veteran backup Drew Lock.
With so much uncertainty swirling around for both teams, what can bettors choose from to feast off this Thanksgiving Day contest? We’ll cover that and our top three picks as the Dallas Cowboys host the New York Giants on Thursday.
Player | Prop | Price |
---|---|---|
Cooper Rush | Over 228.5 Pass Yards | |
Cooper Rush | Under 228.5 Pass Yards |
Dallas opted for the veteran Rush over Trey Lance when Prescott went down with an injury. Through four games as the primary passer, Rush has exceeded 240 yards twice, lending credence to the notion he’ll do it against the Giants on Thursday.
Savvy bettors would expect the opposite. The Cowboys were held to 293 total yards against New York in their first meeting, and Rush doesn’t instill confidence he’ll lead his team to exceed that total this meeting. Expect Rush to finish below 200 yards in this contest.
Player | Prop | Price |
---|---|---|
Tyrone Tracy Jr. | Over 59.5 Rush Yards | |
Tyrone Tracy Jr. | Under 59.5 Rush Yards |
The New York Giants found little rushing room in their first matchup against the Cowboys in their first matchup, and former starting running back Devin Singletary has been supplanted by rookie Tyrone Trady Jr.
Tracy has eclipsed this mark in four of his past five games, and his 587 rushing yards on the year rank among the top 25 players in the NFL. That’s despite his limited handoffs as Singletary still carves out a limited backup role to the fifth-round selection.
Last week, Tracy struggled against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and there’s cause for concern that the 5-foot-11 back could be facing loaded defensive fronts from the Cowboys defense again. Bettors should take the under here without Jones’ ability to make opponents pay.
It may seem counterintuitive to suggest a quarterback will finish under his average passing total, but his wide receiver will exceed the amount. That’s not the case in selecting Dallas wide receiver CeeDee Lamb to surpass his projected total on Thanksgiving Day.
Lamb has faced the Giants nine times in his career, and the receiver has surpassed 70 yards in all but two instances – once in each of his rookie and sophomore campaigns. He’ll do so again on Thursday, covering this player prop bet.
Monday, December 9 at 8:15 PM | Spread | Money | Total |
Cincinnati Bengals | -5.5 (-112) | -230 | O 49.5 (-108) |
Dallas Cowboys | +5.5 (-115) | +200 | U 49.5 (-112) |
When these two teams met the first time, the Cowboys survived a 20-15 scare against the Giants. Defensively, little has changed for either team, and their familiarity with each other’s offense suggests a similar contest this time.
That should definitely hold true with the quarterbacks entering this year’s contest. With running at a premium for both teams, expecting either quarterback in the game to make noise on Thursday would require a massive breakdown in coverage for two solid defensive squads. A 16-13 final would not be out of the question for this contest.
