Crazy Bets and Bad Beats from NFL Week 4

Happy Monday, sports investing family! Well, maybe it's not so happy if you suffered a bad beat yesterday. I had Duke +5.5 on Saturday (OUCH!), so I'm right there with you! What an unfortunate last couple of minutes that was for all Blue Devils fans and backers.

Let's take a look at some of the crazy bets and bad beats from NFL Week 4. Hopefully, you were on the good side of these. Have a fabulous week and thanks as always for reading.

Bad Beat: DraftKings Big Bettor Suffers Tough Fate After Questionable Call

Even after losing Aaron Rodgers and the recent horrid play of Zach Wilson, some Jets fans still believe in their beloved team. One person at DraftKings upped the ante on that belief by placing a $5,000 wager on the Jets at the generous price of +380.

With Taylor Swift, Blake Lively, and Ryan Reynolds watching from the luxury box, the Chiefs came out firing on all cylinders. Kansas City built a 17-0 lead behind a long run from Isiah Pacheco and a deep TD pass from Patrick Mahomes to Noah Gray.

Though things looked hopeless for our crazy bettor at DraftKings, the Jets refused to go away quietly. New York's stingy defense tightened up and got the team's scoring started with a safety. Greg Zuerlein hit a 31-yard field goal and Wilson hit CJ Uzomah for a 1-yard TD to cut the lead to 17-12.

Harrison Butker connected on a 37-yard field goal to give the Chiefs a 20-12 lead at the half. Our crazy bettor was back in the thick of things and had to be cheering jubilantly when Wilson cashed in a two-point conversion after hooking up with Allen Lazard for a 10-yard TD. That knotted things up at 20 apiece.

That's when things started to go haywire! Butker hit another field goal to give the Chiefs a three-point lead, but the Jets still had several chances to make a thrilling comeback. Unfortunately, a questionable holding call on Sauce Gardner may have been the difference in the outcome.

You can see from the video above why all Jets fans (and this big bettor) were irate at this call. It looked like incidental contact, but the call on Gardner negated a Jets interception with about 4 minutes left in the game. What a bad beat! I'm betting this official won't be on any Jets fans Christmas card lists!

Crazy Bet: Inept Offenses Lead to Huge Win for Bettor at FanDuel

Sometimes it's better to fade certain teams than it is to ride other squads. A sports bettor at FanDuel cashed out in a big way by using this theory. They placed a crazy 3-leg parlay that included NO-TD wagers on the Browns, Steelers, and Saints.

To say this bet was a long shot would be a gross understatement. Even the league's worst offenses often find a way to find the end zone at least once during a game. However, that was not the case yesterday!

The Browns couldn't get anything going behind rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson, as the rookie from UCLA looked lost in his first NFL start. He threw 3 picks against the Ravens vaunted defense and just never looked comfortable. Cleveland got its only points from a Dustin Hopkins 53-yard field goal.

The Steelers also failed to find paydirt against the Texans. Though most folks were down on Houston to start the season, they've pulled off back-to-back upsets and CJ Stroud looks like the real deal at QB. Houston held Pittsburgh to a paltry 225 yards of total offense.

Pittsburgh got on the board a couple times, but only because of field goals by Chris Boswell. This meant that all our crazy bettor needed was the Bucs to keep the Saints out of the end zone.

This seemed unlikely, especially since All World RB Alvin Kamara would finally be making his season debut for New Orleans. Even still, the Bucs defense was up to the task. Tampa Bay held New Orleans to just 3 field goals and won in blowout fashion 26-9. That turned a $25 ticket into more than 8 grand for this lucky soul at FanDuel! Congrats!
