Monday Night Football rolls into SoFi Stadium with the kind of matchup that reminds everyone why this time slot exists. The Buffalo Bills (3-1) head west to face the Los Angeles Rams (2-2), and this one comes loaded with star power, a wild shared history, and a primetime stage built for exactly this kind of spectacle. Josh Allen, the reigning 2024 NFL MVP, goes up against Matthew Stafford, who just took home the 2025 MVP trophy. Two of the game’s most electric offenses. One building that turns into pure chaos under the lights. Kickoff is 8:15 PM ET on ABC/ESPN.

If this feels familiar, it’s because these two teams have already given fans one of the most entertaining games in recent memory. The last time Buffalo visited SoFi Stadium, back in December 2024, the Rams escaped with a 44-42 win in a game that produced more than 900 combined yards and zero turnovers from either side. Allen became the first player in NFL history to throw three touchdown passes and rush for three more in the same game — and still lost. That’s the bar this rematch is chasing, and given how both rosters look right now, there’s a real chance it clears it.

What the Spread Says About This Shootout

Vegas sees this one the same way fans do: close, high-scoring, and tilted ever so slightly toward the home team. The Rams opened as 3-point favorites and the line has held mostly steady, sitting around -3 to -3.5 depending on the book as kickoff approaches. Buffalo’s moneyline has drifted from +136 out to as high as +150, while Los Angeles has firmed up from -162 to -179, suggesting bettors are leaning Rams even as the public remains intrigued by Allen’s track record of magic in big spots.

The total is where this game really tells its story. The over/under opened at 53.5 and has climbed to 54.5, with the market pushing toward the Over as kickoff approaches. That’s about as clear a signal as it gets — oddsmakers expect fireworks, not a field-position slog. Given the way these two offenses performed the last time they shared a field, nobody is counting on a defensive stalemate.

Form, Injuries and the Matchups That Will Decide It

Buffalo arrives off a rough one, having dropped a 29-26 decision to the Patriots in which quarterback Drake Maye carved up a young Bills secondary that includes Maxwell Hairston and Davison Igbinosun. That performance has to be a little concerning heading into a matchup with Nacua and Adams, arguably the best receiver duo Buffalo will see all season. The good news for the Bills: cornerback Christian Benford is expected back in the lineup after dealing with a toe issue, giving the secondary a much-needed veteran presence. The bad news is Ed Oliver (knee) and Josh Palmer (shoulder) are both out, while DJ Moore is banged up with a shoulder injury and Dee Alford is questionable with an ankle problem.

The Rams, by contrast, are riding high off a furious fourth-quarter comeback win over Philadelphia, with Matthew Stafford leading two late touchdown drives capped by Kyren Williams runs to erase a 20-10 deficit. Stafford’s overall numbers this year — six touchdowns and six interceptions through four games — are a far cry from the MVP form he showed last season, something analysts have openly questioned in recent days. Still, the Rams defense has been the real foundation of this team, ranking second in the NFL in yards allowed per game (247.5) and second in pressure rate (44.2%). Outside linebacker Byron Young has stepped into a bigger role with Myles Garrett sidelined and has racked up 3.5 sacks doing it. Aaron Donald returned to a full practice and is good to go after a back issue, cornerback Jaylen Watson is cleared as well, and tight end Colby Parkinson practiced fully. Safety Quentin Lake (hip) is the lone real question mark for Los Angeles.

The matchup worth circling: Bills defensive tackle Deone Walker, PFF’s highest-graded interior pass rusher through four weeks with 19 pressures, lining up against a Rams offensive line that has a clear soft spot at right guard in Kevin Dotson. If Walker wins that rep early and often, it could be the difference in how clean a pocket Stafford gets to work with against Buffalo’s pass rush. A Rivalry Still Looking for Its First Postseason Chapter

Buffalo actually holds the all-time series edge at 9-6 across 15 meetings dating back to 1970, and has won five of the last six matchups against Los Angeles. The lone recent blemish is that December 2024 classic, which still stings in Buffalo given how historic Allen’s stat line was in defeat. These franchises have never met in the postseason, but with Allen chasing his first Super Bowl and Stafford fresh off an MVP campaign of his own, a Monday night referendum between the league’s last two MVPs feels like exactly the kind of stage both quarterbacks relish.

Prediction and Best Bet

Expect another shootout. Buffalo’s offense is explosive enough to move the ball on anyone, but a banged-up secondary facing Nacua and Adams, combined with Los Angeles’ superior pass rush, tips this one toward the home team in a track meet.

  • Prediction: Buffalo Bills 27, Los Angeles Rams 30
  • Best Bet: Over 54.5 total points

Both of these offenses have proven they can score in bunches, and the last meeting between these two teams produced 86 combined points. With the total sitting at 54.5 and still trending upward, the smart play is betting on these two MVP-caliber quarterbacks putting on a show rather than trying to guess exactly who wins a game this close to call straight up.
